Its in the PHBII, and essentially it summons a ton of pretty nifty soldiers to work for you. They have an AC, and hit points, can make attacks of oppurtunities and flank. But WotC forgot to put in if they can attack or not in a round, or what damage they do on an AoO. Where can I find this info cus this spell rocks!

This helps some:

. . . is my new favorite spell. From customer support, here is the missing text for the spell:

“The swordsmen’s attacks are at a bonus equal to your caster level, they threaten critical hits on a 19 or 20, and they deal 1d8 points of slashing damage +1 per three caster levels (max +5).”

Still not totally sure if they can attack on their own or just make AoOs.

I think it is more of a "help your rogue out" spell than anything.
Unless they just left out an entire paragraph of text for the spell that is. I dont really understand why they are allowed to make attacks of opportunity if they dont list their to-hit, or damage. But like I said, I think they are more meant to flank than anything.

*EDIT* Look at that, they did miss some text....

I hope that they put out an errata soon on that, I thought they were only for AoOs and flanking bonuses.

Another question... If their BAB is high enough, can they make more than 1 attack?

since they're only making AoOs, its something of a moot point.

I recently posted a question about this spell also. Although the text mentions AoO, it doesn't state that is the only time they attack. I assume they get regular attacks in addition to AoO but don't know what the bonus is. As a 3rd level spell, it should provide more than a flank bonus & AoO. If each swordsman hit for 1D8+1 /3 CL it is still doing less damage to fewer enemies than the average fireball or lightning bolt. I think the attack bonus was left out accidently. My DM has some themes from Heros of Battle in our game and I'm thinking of widening Legion of Sentinels to 20' after casting Phantom Battle and Kelgore's Grave Mist.

Look at jaelis' post...Post n.2 in this thread.“The swordsmen’s attacks are at a bonus equal to your caster level, they threaten critical hits on a 19 or 20, and they deal 1d8 points of slashing damage +1 per three caster levels (max +5).”

It says they can make 1 attack of opportunity x round.......

... would it be too overpowered if they would normally attack?

Also, can you cast it multiple times and have many legions of sentinels? (I'm assuming no)

I don't think it would be too overpowered for a third level spell if the swordsman got regular attacks in addition to AoO. A fireball at 6th Level does 6d6 damage in 20' r. Otherwise, it effects up to 44 medium creatures for 6-36 damage or 3-18 damage if a successful save is made. That is pretty good. Legion at 15 Lvl does 1D8+5 for 6-13 damage to 12 medium creatures and only if they make a successful attack (assuming they are not AoO only) Significantly less damage overall, even if you score a couple crits. In comparison, that doesn't sound too powerful to me. There are some bonuses for Legion if the swordsman can't make regular attacks at all when a rogue is around but without a nearby rogue or used against an enemy who wont go out of there way to give the otherwise harmless swordsman AoO the spell is practically useless. Consider Persistent Blade to provide rogues with flanking opportunities. it is a 1st level spell. I hope the swordsman get a regular attack and not just AoO. I can't wait for the official errata on what the BAB is if they allow it.

Another 2 cents that could be way off track, I think you can cast the spell multiple times in the same area. I think that would give you double the swordsman to attack although I suppose there is a possibility it only effects the spell duration if the second casting ends a few rounds later than the first

I like the idea for the spell but the discription needs some serious work it doesn't list the bab for the swordman the only place it lists the damage is under the spell directory. All together very frustrating.

As for the level and effect I would say it is in line with A fireball. The spell is made for tacticle uses it would be a godsend to a army that was about to be flanked for example. I would think this spell would see more use on a battlefiled then in a dungeon.

My DM has incorporated Heros of Battle with Eberron's Mournland prior to The Last War. It's been a lot of fun and I agree that this should be a great battle field spell once all the questions are clarified.
