"Making" Aberrations [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-14-07, 03:08 PM Hi! So I've got four players and none of them are interested in playing wizards.

Since we're doing a campaign reboot (long story involving time travel - same PCs, same geography - heavily modified setting) I thought I'd build a world where wizards (only) usually go insane / evil as they grow in power. This insanity regularly results in them becoming "madmages."

I'm envisioning them to be something like the Madboys and Madgirls of Phil Foglio's Girl Genius series. In this case, they're powerful enough to build small monster armies - but stupid enough to try to conquer the world with them.

I figure I'll create three "madmage" prestige classes -- one that focuses on constructs, one that binds humanoids to its service and the last who both makes and "draws" aberrations & magical beasts.

Soooo...with all that background you probably didn't want, I was wondering if you experts might have a suggestion on how a wizard might make an aberration or beast, or to permanently modify an existing creature into an aberration through magic. I mean, we read about how some aberrations are the results of wizardly experiments either intentional or gone awry, and I was wondering how you envision them doing such a thing.

Suggestions regarding spells, skills, feats and whatever other thoughts you might have are more than welcome.

If it matters, every madmage prestige class will have 10 levels.

08-15-07, 12:08 AM Can't go past "Lords of Madness: THE Book of Aberrations"

For the Prestige Classes, would be a good idea to check out the Fleshwarper

For the creatures, just add the Pseudonatural or Half-Farspawn templates (technically, they make outsiders, but they're outsiders from the Far realm, which is pretty much Aberration city).

08-15-07, 12:59 PM Also there's a thing in Magic of Eberron that makes aberrations by putting a creature or two inside it and then sift through various dimensions until a desired lifeform comes out.
