| Stormonu03-04-08, 05:46 PM | While working on slightly revamping the warlock for my home campaign, I got thinking about the idea of migrating 3.5's spell system towards a sort of "per encounter" system. Thought I'd bounce the idea around here before I commit myself to it to see what the pitfalls and considerations would have to be before implementing it. The basic idea: Break spells along one or two axis to determine how often they can be used: 1 Axis Breakdown (by spell level) 0 - 3rd: 1 minute "recharge" time (+1 minute/level above 1st?) 4th-6th: 1 hour "recharge" time (+1 hour/level above 4th?) 7th-9th: 8 hour "recharge" time (+8 hours/level above 7th?) 2 Axis Breakdown (by spell level & duration) Instantaneous: level breakdown as above rounds/level: 5 minute "recharge" time or by level (whichever is longer) 1 minute/level: 15 minute "recharge" time or by level (whichever is longer) 10 minutes/level: 1 hour "recharge" time 1 hour/level: 1 day "recharge" time or by level (whichever is longer) 1 day/level: only one active at a time Permanent: 1 day/1 week "recharge" time If a spell falls between two durations listed above, use the higher recharge limitation Note: I'm also working to increase the fighter's abilities (somewhat along the lines of Tome of Battle) and decrease overall wealth, making the characters more dependent on gear and less on items. |
