| Ray_of_Enfeeblement08-01-07, 04:00 PM | My non-spellcaster character found a ring of wishes and I am trying to figure out the best use for it for my specific needs. One thing I was wondering Is it possible to wish for a spell with metamagic applied to it, increasing the spell level to the maximum level of the spell wish allows? Like wishing for a Repeating (+3) Twin (+4) Magic Missile spell? |
| Puca08-01-07, 04:14 PM | That seems a waste, but yes. There should be no problem with duplicating a repeating twinned Magic Missile with a Wish spell. |
| Platstud08-01-07, 04:19 PM | If you use a Wish to cast Magic Missile, could you videotape the session and send it to me? Please, please, PLEASE! |
| Platstud08-01-07, 04:21 PM | Just as a note, in case you misread the wish spell, it would not permanently give you the ability to cast that spell. It just casts it once and then your wish is done. |
| tarkin08-01-07, 04:23 PM | You should be able to cast a wish to simulate a spell with a metamagic applied. That pretty clearly falls under the "Produce any other effect whose power level is in line with the above effects" that applies to Limited Wish, Miracle and Wish. As others stated, it would also be pretty wastefull. I beleive that the best possible use of a wish is as part of a set of 5 wishes to achieve an inherent bonus of +5. If I managed to find even 3 wishes, I would be trying to buy 2 more and get the +5. |

Although even then there's probably a few more useful things you could do. |
| Ray_of_Enfeeblement08-02-07, 11:37 AM | Would you be so kind as to walk me through your madness method? (I always enjoy adding to my arsenal of madness) After getting stuck in a room alone with various traps and treasures, my character managed to make it out with only a fraction of my hps; my party members decided for some (ill-conceived reason) to try to attack my character. Even at my character's best, he would not be able to take out the main antagonist, a twinked out Githzerai Ninja/Assassin with Touch AC 31+ and equally high saves. Higher level spells are virtually unheard of in our campaigns, so I was unfamilar with many of my options. I wanted to lay down the smackdown with a ring that I found which grants a single wish, but I was so surprised by what was going on that I really didn't have a chance to figure out something that would be exceptionally effective and lethal against this particular opponent based on what I had seen in character. Luckilly, there wasn't a fight. My character convinced his attackers that he'd go along with what they said without question. Since his trust has been utterly broken and it is obvious that they're not reliable company, my character is planning what he should do once they finish their objectives. The ninja's only exploitable weaknesses are his low HP total and lack of SR. With no possible save or way to evade the effect, I figured rolling average damage from a twinned-repeating magic missile would do it. Then again, if I roll poorly then I've wasted a wish. I won't give anything away just in case he reads this thread, but I've found at least 1 better way to counter this guy in a more dramatic and satisfactory way. |
| Platstud08-02-07, 12:16 PM | Sounds like you're in trouble. Without starting a long discussion about party in-fighting, I would suggest that if you can't work things out, escape might be a better plan than engagement. That wish will easily teleport you safely anywhere in the world. |
