Hey,

If i brought a corpse to a spellcaster that could cast Animate Dead, would i be able to get him to cast it, then give me control over the dead afterwards? I'm a Warlock atm, but next level i'll get a level of Sorcerer. If not, is there any other way for a low level caster, to control a small amount of undeads?

Nothing in the spell description indicates control of undead can be passed to anyone but the original caster. I supposed the creator could command the undead to follow the commands of another, but this is not the same as transferring control.

Not a wise move on the gift receiver's end, though. Once the original caster reaches the HD limit, guess which undead s/he's going to "free" first?

Hehe, i guess you're right... I was kinda hoping that with my next sorcerer level, i would be able to control up to 4 HD, problem is i can't summon them myself until at levels alot later... Guess that's what makes having 32HD of undead balanced, you can't have it until late game... Any other ways of getting some sort of undead cohort? Except for an undead familiar, which requires a feat.

Use a scroll. Use the control undead ability available for armor and shields.

Scrolls are weak. First chance I get I make an item that casts animate dead 1 per day at a decent caster level. Of course the towns people look at you funny when you start shopping for a dead horse. Keep in mind you don't want to many Undead kicking around if you don't have rebuke undead yourself, or the first evil cleric you run into can kick your butt with your own minions.

I make an item that casts animate dead 1 per day at a decent caster level. This is why I do not allow 1/day magic items to be created by the PCs. The only items they choose to do this for are ones you wouldn't need more than once a day, if that often. The lowest X/day I allow is 3/day. This prevents high power effect items at exptremely reduced prices.

(Then again, I have a problem with (objection to) the magic item creation price-reducing rules in general. Getting a price reduction for making an item do exactly what you want, for whom you want, is just wrong.)

Thanks for the ideas. :)

To counter clerics, i'm using a couple of feats from Libris Mortis, which should help keep them on my side.
