Is it possible to cast Animate Weapon on an improvised weapon (i.e. crowbar, mug at the bar, severed arm...?)

Also, does Magic Weapon affect a monk's fist? If so, would his fist be affected by say... Animate Weapon, Enlarge Weapon, and any other series of unusual weapon based spells?

::seriously hoping everyone says yes... but suspects otherwise, still very funny idea though::

Sure.

Also sure for the monk.

Concerning monks. A monk's fists count as both natural and manufactured wpns. and is affected by any spells that affect either.

I totally love these two answers, however I'd like a little more imput from some of the other rules-lawyers. :D

P.S. Just imagine the monk with the really BIG hands (via Enlarge Weapon)... would he swim better, climb better.... and would that horrible monkey grip/oversized weapon thingy everyone hates hearing actually work?? (not a real question, please spare me)

I can't really see why you wouldn't be able to animate a barstool. There is little practical point to it so why not?

A monk's fists can take a magic weapon I believe, as well as a magic fang. As for Animating his fists, are you looking to use that offensively, "Stop hitting yourself! Stop hitting yourself!"?

IMO, I would use the Magic Fang and Greater Magic Fang spells for monk fists as opposed to Magic Weapon and Greater Magic Weapon because I thought the fists for a monk would count only as natural weapons. But if the above quote by Muktar is true, then YAY :D:

PHB pg 41 (3rd paragraph under Unarmed Strike)

A monk's unarmed strike is treated both as a manufactured weapon and a natural weapon for the purpose of spells and effects that enhance or improves either manufactured weapons or natural weapons(such as magic fang and magic weapon spells).

So, by the way it reads you can enlarge them since it would enhance them but you could not animate them.

I would laugh at a player that wanted to "animate" a monk's unarmed fists.

He would have his fists sundered.
