I'm having a problem dealing with the animated shield. In the description, it says that the shield floats 2 feet in front of its user, protecting the user as if they were actively using it. What if an enemy tries to take the shield by force away from the user? Does the shield lose its power?

If an enemy tries to take the sheild from the user they have to follow the rules as though the user were actively employing the shield. That is, grappling them followed by a disarm, since a shield is a well-secured item. Because it's floating the DM may want to forgo the well-secured part, but there's still a disarm check involved here to get it away from them. If they succeed, now either the shield is on the ground in ineffectual, or the if they tried to grab it without a weapon, the enemy has a shiny, new, floating shield.

That's what my players thought. I wasn't sure, so I posted here. Thanks.
