Animating objects [Archive] - Wizards Community

This is kind of a two fold question.

I am slightly confused on how I would go about this as a wizard. Ultimately I want to create a tiny ragamuffin doll construct to have around, but obviously I can't use Animate Object because it's not on my spell list. I have permanency prepared, but I wouldn't be able to do it alone. How would I go about animating tiny constructs (barely even a construct) without going through large amounts of work that normal constructs require to build?

Secondly, how would a wizard go about animating mundane objects like chairs without going through the construct work?

And lastly, this is more of an annoyance speculation than a question, why on earth is Animate Object a Bard and Cleric spell but not a Sorc/Wiz spell? I cannot see the logic in being able to animate rope easily, among controlling the most powerful arcane forces, but not being able to animate tiny mundane objects worth even less than some strands of hemp twisted together.

By the book you could use unseen servant, to moves stuff around, or animate dead and haunt shift... other then that force your dm to watch Fantasia until they cave in.

you could use the Minor Servitor spell from Savage Species. Sure, its a 3.0 book, but its never been changed or reprinted yet.

I think Minor Servitor would do the trick for now. And actually, what book would tell me how to make a permanent serving construct that isactually classified as a monster? Although I just want an animate doll to help my character here and there, possibly even more through the quest we're in, but I might try to make something better and less silly one day.

As for Animate Object, personally I'm just going consider it a 6th level Sorcerer and Wizard spell from now on, regardless of what the PHB or WoTC says in general. No doubt my DM will allow it, and I assume most reasonable DM's wouldn't really think twice about it; mainly on the principle that Wizards are synonymous with living/moving mundane objects, if not their entire home.

how would a wizard go about animating mundane objects like chairs without going through the construct work?1) Hire a cleric or bard
2) Use wish
3) Call a Ravid with lesser planar binding
4) Call a Solar
5) Research a spell
6) Obtain ranks in Use Magic Device and use a staff or scroll

So um, is there a book that shows arcane casters how to make constructs in a specified manner, or would I have to wing it completely with craft skills?

there is no book that tells how to make "constructs" because according to the rules as written, you can only create the pre-specified types of constructs, such as Flesh Golem, Homonculus, Effigy, Stone Golem, etc.

in order to create a construct that is not a type already in a published book, you'd have to get your DM to let you research a way to create a new type of construct, creating its stats, powers, appearance, cost to create, spells used in the creation, etc. from scratch.
