| Style11-07-05, 12:15 PM | I was thinking about playing a wizard who uses a great many custom spells. But not necessarily hurty spells, just really annoying, unconventional ones. Here’s a short list that I’ve thought of: Pockets full of sand – encumbers someone with weight. Sticky sheath – sticks not wielded weapons in their holders. Sticky fingers – anything touched by target secures firmly in a hand. Fixed distance (chase the rainbow) – stay a constant distance from one target without having to move. Explode clothes – causes trivial damage, but any non-magical clothing disappears. Reduce size, kinda – an illusion that shifts targets POV to two inches from the ground. All noises sound deeper except target’s voice which sounds shrill and tiny. No actual size change occurs. Dude, where’s my horse? – causes target to forget mundane, but possibly important, details. My pockets – magically “trap” an area to immediately move unattended objects set in its radius to casters possession. Suss out secret – infuriate, intimidate, or negotiate better with a target, by revealing a dark hidden secret. Caster cannot choose which effect he causes. Dreams of eternal waking – Disturb sleeping targets sleep. Invisible stilts – target walks five feet off the ground. Drive insane – cause target to hear malevolent whispering. If any of these are actual spells, I had no idea. I was just thinking of bothersome effects. Can you guys think of any others that would be equally banal (nothing big and flashy/damaging) but would really annoy someone who they were cast on, or the DM? |

As a DM I would give more leeway to new spells if they were as imaginitive as these. Really love the last two. And "sticky sheath" is great. I'm figuring it should be a first or second level spell. If first level, the victim gets a strength check vs. 10 + your caster level. If second level, on check, weapon cannot be drawn. nnnnn |
| Style11-07-05, 02:44 PM | Thank you. I've thought of some more... Phantasmal pleasure - conjures targets greatest fantasy. Target becomes...distracted. Dig hole - create a hole beneath targets feet. Show emotions - vague symbols appear over targets head, possibly revealing inner thought and emotions. Requires intelligence check to decipher. Force to speak – cause target to say whatever you want (think Bruce Almighty). Summon mother – an illusionary image of targets mother appears, berating them in public. If anyone can think of equally annoying spell effects, by all means, please post. |
