So it's Mordenkainen's Sword with 4d8 vs. 4d6+3 damage, 18-20 threat vs. 19-20 threat, and with the vorpal ability? Hmm, that might be worth more than a single level bump, although I might allow it at 8th level. Considering that DR would still apply (as this isn't "magic" for the purpose of bypassing DR, nor is it "adamantine" or "aligned"), I might be okay with this as is.

Looks good!

First, you never said anywhere the natural attack roll of 20 had to be confirmed as a critical hit (with another attack roll), which I think it really should. Put that part in, and you have yourself a very cool spell. The damage is significant, but not overwhelming at all. It can attack many, many times, but each individual attack is not devastating, and it has the chance for a critical hit to kill a target... which is fine for an 8th level spell.

I think it looks good. Perhaps, to avoid confusion, rename it to Greater Mord's Sword, reference the original spell, and add in whatever changes you've made. This will help pre-emptively clear up any concerns about the sword provoking AoO's or taking them on other opponents, etc.

Overall, cool spell. Seems fair at 8th level to me.

Woops, I forgot about that. Thank you for catching that. Thats why I post these.:D I'll change that shortly. I've played in saveral campaigns with house rules that a nat 20 is an automatic crit, which is why I didnt think about it. Given the nature of this spell, however, thats definately not fair.

does Mord's sword say anything about this? I referenced the spell to make sure mine didnt do too much damage, and I didint see anything like that. It was, however, about 5am, so I'm sure I could have missed something. I'll double check my sources and make the changes I deem necessary. Thanks for the feedback, guys.

One look at Mord's Sword and I realized mine needed a major overhaul, so I based it off of Mords sword instead.

I was under the impression that spells bypassed DR. If that is indeed the case, should this be moved to 9th level?

I raised it to level 9 and allowed it to ignore the 1st 15 points of hardness when attacking innanimate objects.

Spells do bypass DR, but when the spell creates a physical object that deals damage (i.e. a sword, or spells like spiritual weapon), then I think it's subject to DR as normal. I'll have to double-check.

From the SRD:
Spells, spell-like abilities, and energy attacks (even nonmagical fire) ignore damage reduction.
It seems it would ignore DR. That being the case, its probably better off at 9th level.
