In addition the description states that the creature "appears where you designate and acts immediately, on your turn." Let's assume I'm a level 1 druid (which at the moment is actually true :D), and I've just finished the casting time to summon a wolf. 1) What actions can the wolf take? Full Round, Move, Standard? (note I'm using 3.5 here) For instance, if I was more than 30' (the range of a 1st level summon spell) from the enemy I wanted to attack with the wolf, can it move using it's own move rate and attack in the same round it appears? 2) Does the wolf disappear at the end of the first round, beginning of my turn on the 2nd round, or end of the 2nd round? Or to put it another way, does the round in which it appears "and acts immediately" count as it's first round? 3) If the wolf suddenly appears right next to an enemy and immediatly attacks, is the enemy flat-footed or otherwise denied his Dex bonus? |

The wolf "acts normally" just like the spell says. It can make any actions a normal wolf would make in a round. 2) Does the wolf disappear at the end of the first round, beginning of my turn on the 2nd round, or end of the 2nd round? Or to put it another way, does the round in which it appears "and acts immediately" count as it's first round? It disappears just before your turn on the 2nd round (no action that round, just the one action when it appeared). 3) If the wolf suddenly appears right next to an enemy and immediatly attacks, is the enemy flat-footed or otherwise denied his Dex bonus? It does not make an enemy flat-footed, though it can take advantage of that if you completed the casting before the enemy could have its turn (ie, the enemy is surprised), and it can flank the enemy if someone else (including you) is in melee with it--denying the enemy his Dex bonus. |
| Goreg Skullcrusher02-17-04, 03:58 PM | It disappears just before your turn on the 2nd round (no action that round, just the one action when it appeared). Not quite. You start casting on round 1, and right before your turn on round 2 it appears. It can then proceed to take a full-round action if it so desires. You are also entitled to take your action on round 2. Right before your turn on round 3, it disappears. (Meaning, it only gets to act once) Summons are 1 round casting times, not full-round. :) |

If you read my original post, you'll note that I started the scenario having already completed the required casting time (1 round). Thus the "1st round" in my example was the round in which the wolf appears. |
