If a summoned monster has an ability it can only use a limited number of times per day, would it always have that ability available when you summon it?

For example, suppose I summon an Avoral (using SMVII) because I want it to heal me using its Lay On Hands supernatural ability. This ability is only 1/day for the Avoral, so surely there is a possibility it might have already used it up on its home plane?

Yes. You can assume that the summoned creature is "fully charged" when it arrives.

Yep otherwise you would have to determine current hp randomly. I might do that with a calling spell for a specific creature (Herb the hezrou for instance) but never for anything generic.

:) Thanks for that, we'll be summoning with no worries now...
