| Dracspero11-10-03, 10:41 AM | After reading the description of the wish spell, I still wasn't sure if what I want to do is possible. My question is, would I be able to use wish to make casting True Strike a free action? As a dragon disciple, true strike is pretty much the only spell I cast, and I was thinking that if I ever got hold of Wish I could make it (true strike) that much more usefull (especially if it were combined with a ring of wizardry doubling 1st level spells). So is that too powerfull? My DM is pretty literal, so I imagine if it doesn't fit into the options listed under the spell he probably wouldn't allow it, but you never know. |

Feats aren't overly powerful. Heck, you get a free one every three levels, but only get a stat point every four, which suggests to me that stat points are more highly regarded than Feats. But you can use a wish to get stat points. Perhaps a compromise would be a better way to approach my original question. For example, at 10th level DD, I'd be able to cast 11 true stikes a day, becoming 22 with a ring of wizardry. Obviously, the ability to cast all of them as free actions could be over powered. But what if the ability was limited to x times per day? Then I wouldn't abuse the ability, but would save it for the more dire circumstances. Wasn't wish SUPPOSED to be a supremely powerfull spell? A friend once put on a ring of wishes, not knowing it's nature. A little while later, having forgotten about the ring, he started singing "I wish I were an Oscar Meyer weiner". |

But you can use a wish to get stat points. Not quite - you can use a Wish to get an inherent bonus to an ability score. If you have a +4 inherent bonus to Strength, you need five Wishes to get it up another point. But when you hit 12th level, or 16th level, or whatever, you can bump it up one more no matter what your inherent bonus is. The Wish is weaker than the one-every-four-levels increase. -Hyp. |
| Rabe11-10-03, 06:43 PM | It is not the Uber spell...it is just the most universal spell there is. I have disallowed wishing/miracling for metamagicked versions of a spell, as that would allow any 17+ caster to make use of all feats. I am sure, you can find examples what problems can arise from that on the min/max boards. I also have banned all spells granting feats, and therefore you cannot get one from wish either. Its simply too cheap for a caster to get them just by casting a spell, when others have to get three levels in order to get it. If anyone of my players wants to cast free action True Strikes, they have to take Quicken Spell and get 5th level spellslots to utilize it. Since they actually did that (the casters), I suspect that the spell has to be good...of course, they tend to quicken a few other things as well  Rabe |
