| extreme_tactician04-13-07, 03:09 AM | What happens if a Colossal creature (maybe a dragon...) casts Antimagic Field? Is it completely in the field  (and it extends for a 10 ft. radius outside its space...) or just for a little part (for example the head or one claw...)? |
| Leilond04-13-07, 06:41 AM | Some people say "centered on you" means you are ALL included, some say "centered on you" means only you must choose a cornero of one of the square you occupy and see if the creature can stay "inside" If you choose to use the second "interpretation", all spells with "centered on you" and "N feet radius" become nearly unuseful form casters bigger than 2xN |
| runestar04-13-07, 07:50 AM | My interpretation is that AMF will be useless to you, since you are larger than the AMF, and thus, parts of you will be sticking out like sore thumbs. You will need a widened AMF to receive the full benefit. I could be incorrect though.:P |

I could be incorrect though.:P You cannot apply "widen spell" to AMF because Benefit You can alter a burst, emanation, line, or spread shaped spell to increase its area AMF isn't a "burst" nor "emanation" nor "line" nor "spread" because it must be written in the "area of effect" one of those words |
| Moribund04-13-07, 09:00 AM | Uhh Antimagic Field Abjuration Level: Clr 8, Magic 6, Protection 6, Sor/Wiz 6 Components: V, S, M/DF Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: 10 ft. Area: 10-ft.-radius emanation, centered on you Duration: 10 min./level (D) Saving Throw: None Not an emanation, eh? |
| Nezkrul04-13-07, 02:24 PM | someone forgot to eat their wheaties, :P |
| Moribund04-13-07, 04:33 PM | Spells that are centered on creatures tend to be a bit of a problem as spell areas must be centered on a grid intersection rather than a square (and creatures occupy squares). As a possible house rule you might want to say that distance is calculated from all external grid intersections rather than just one. This prevents ambiguity and makes it easier to fit in an invisibility sphere or antimagic field. |
| Aricomus04-13-07, 08:57 PM | This made me think of another question... If said colossal dragon is partially occupying an AMF and lets say he has barkskin cast on himself. if he were attacked, would he still have the benefit of the barkskin? Would he only lose the benefit if the part of him that was attacked was inside the field? Would oh say, shooting an arrow from inside the AMF to a part of the dragon outside the AMF let him keep the bonus the that attack (and vice versa)? |
| Etharion04-14-07, 06:12 AM | Thats totally stupid to me.. If a collosal dragon cast AMF in mycampaign, the spell would encompass the whole dragon and a 10 feet area emanating from him. Not just one claw..or his head.. that's totally useless and dum.. |
| WinDReiN04-14-07, 06:54 AM | I would houserule that the spell works on the entire colossal creature + 10 ft. |
| Aricomus04-14-07, 09:53 PM | I meant if someone else cast AMF and he was partially in it I do agree with the "whole caster + 10 ft." house rule though |
| kjenks04-14-07, 10:12 PM | I would houserule that the spell works on the entire colossal creature + 10 ft. Would you change all area spells like that, or just AMF? Would you also change AMF so that it emanates from all corners of a medium spellcaster? The by-the-book AMF emanating from a corner of the spellcaster's square has a "gap" square where you can stand right next to a medium spellcaster with AMF, and while you're in that square, you have your magic but the spellcaster does not have his. Changing AMF per your house rule significantly increases the area and the power of AMF. Is that your intent? Do you think area spells are not powerful enough? |
| ArcTan04-15-07, 03:50 AM | Would you change all area spells like that, or just AMF? Speaking for myself: All area spells that are centered on a creature rather than an arbitrary point. Given that I've never actually played "by the book" in that case, and given that the "gap" square, in fact, makes AMF a *worse* than useless spell that a caster would only use if he had a death wish, yes, that would be my intent. |
