If yes, why don't ALL fiends go around with Antimagi Field scrolls, wands, rings, whatever? |
| Archtyrant Terevoth04-25-04, 12:36 PM | Fiends have spell like abilities but they aren't casters, so they cannot read a scroll or use a wand. As for a ring, those don't officially exist, so unless the DM allows one they can't get one. There are currently no core items that generate an AMF that a fiend could use. |
| Bloodtide_the_Red04-25-04, 11:26 PM | Well, the core rules don't realy go into this much. Though note that the magic circle itself has lots of little notes to it. Even if the feind was to have a stone of anti-magic(or dispel amgic or such), they could not use it as the creature 'can't disturb the circle'. Though even if you were to bend this rule a bit(um, the feind has a rock of anti-magic tied to his wrist with a bit of twine and put a drop of slow working acid on the twine that takes six hours to eat through it.....so when it drops off...) there would be the matter of every feind having one. There are lots of feinds in the multiverse. The sneaky fun role-playing part...is the feind does not mind the summons all that much. It's fun to 'get away' and create havok on the Prime for a bit. | Archtyrant Terevoth04-26-04, 09:10 PM | Originally posted by Regularguy They published 'em in 1E, though. 1E magic items didn't really matter because you didn't choose if you wanted one, you had to find it. All the power was in the hands of the DM. Magic items weren't a right, they were a priviledge. So there's no question of why someone wouldn't go around with one, because we already know the answer... because they didn't find one yet. |
| Vidde04-27-04, 10:51 AM | Thank you for your reply, Archtyrant Terevoth, but actually, since the possibility of creating antimagic field magic items does exist in 3e (rules permit it), I was mostly curious about the spell's interactions with planar binding and magic circles. The way a fiend might find/create/use an AMF item is at DM's discretion and fully plausible in most campaigns. Just think of a fiend with wizard/sorcerer levels or with ranks in the Use Magic Device skill ... :schemes: |
| Everach04-27-04, 03:33 PM | A ring of spell storing would allow a fiend to cast AMF. But that doesn't address the original question. A fiend using AMF would end the planar binding, sending him/her home. Dispel Magic could work too. Thing is, Fiends like being summoned and tempting mortals. At least some do. |
