Dispel magic can be used to counterspell, however, it says you need to make a dispel check to counter another spell, which is strictly forbidden to use on the Antimagic Field? Except that countering a spell stops it being cast, it doesn't counter a spell that has already been cast. |
| Silvanoshei10-05-06, 11:43 AM | The spell is still coming out of my fingers, but dispel is now just working in respects to stopping it just as it comes out, countering it, still dispelling it, hence the check. Says you can't use dispel magic on a antimagic field, which is what counterspell via dispel magic on it is forbidden? that's my question. |
| Ellone10-05-06, 11:53 AM | You can use dispel magic to counter any spell being cast. This is not a dispel but an use of the spell to disrupt the energy being shaped. As the spell is not already into effect none of his effect will be taken into account. Now, you can't use dispel to counter a spell being cast if you or the oponent are inside an already active antimagic field. (well, in case of the opponent in an antimagic field, there's usualy nothing to dispel but a guy making strange move) |
| User512710-05-06, 11:58 AM | Like ellone said. antimagic says you can't dispell it. BUT for that to take effect the antimagic field must be active, since its being cast and not active it can still be countered by using dispel magic, or by casting antimagic field (you can counter by using the same spell as well i believe.) and as for casting a spell IN an anti magic field, only an arcmage who takes the master shaper ability could do that, they would have to delcare a 5ft square to be free of the antimagic field, and they could stand in it and cast like crazy, but since spells can't pass through a feild, no one could hit him with a spell and he wouldn't be able to cast out of it, though he could buff the hell out of himself. (i used my arcmage to cast winter (epil level spell) and targeted myself and shaped the center 5ft square to avoid winter's effects. meaning i was a walking blizzard! lol) |

Actually, if you did that, you'll be hit with every magical arrow sword of AoE spell that was near you. Antimagic field surpresses magic, not dispel it. |
| Silvanoshei10-05-06, 12:15 PM | In the Dispel Magics description, it says that Dispel Magic sometimes cannot counter a targeted spell. Now when Antimagic Field shoots off the wording that dispel magic does not remove the field, it is talking about a current active shield, I guess it's just not specific enough for me and getting me confused atm. Does anymore have a spell description in the PHB that says "Dispel Magic can not counter this spell?" |
