An invisible barrier surrounds you and moves with you. The space within this barrier is impervious to most magical effects, including spells, spell-like abilities, and supernatural abilities. Likewise, it prevents the functioning of any magic items or spells within its confines. if a fireball is cast outside an antimagic zone, does a person within the zone get damage?

The most obvious answer would be "yes, its yust fire". But if it was 'yust fire', the damage woudn't be negated by spell resistance.

You answered your own question. AMFs block line of effect. Spells treat them as a wall.

If it is subject to spell resistance, then I'm sure an anti-magic field would stop it because the fire remains magical.

Fireball isn't real fire. Just magical fire. It can't light you on fire only harm you.

Only Orb of Fire (lesser and greater versions) uses real fire and can go through antimagic field.

Actually fireball specifically says it can light flammables on fire, which I assume means exposed paper or lamp oil. It doesn't set people on fire (other spells can though) but it messes up equipment just the same if you roll a natural 1 on your Saving Throw.

No it won't. Any magical protection that you have upon you applies to your equipment as well.

Assuming that the protection spell grants you energy immunity to the type of energy you've been hit with.

He's not talking about magical protection. He's talking about the fact that a human normally can't be set "on fire" by fireball (merely fire-damaged, instantaneously), but if you roll a natural 1, logically nothing would prevent flammable things you're wearing or holding from catching on fire (and continuing to burn in subsequent rounds). This is all assuming you *don't* have magical protection from fire.

This is all irrelevant as to whether AMFs protect from fireball (they do, although a mundane fire *started* by a fireball can spread from outside the AMF into the AMF in subsequent rounds).

I was responding to a previous poster who said that fireball only does damage and doesn't set things on fire. If you're in an AMF of course the fire from fireball won't actually get to you.

Okay, then. I misunderstood you, my bad. :D

To answer the original question, someone outside the AMF can cast a fireball with the origin outside of the AFM, but the area of the fireball that intersects the area of the AFM will be suppressed and do nothing. Everything outside the AFM and in the area of the fireball will take damage normally.
