Summoned or conjured creatures of any type, as well as incorporeal creatures, wink out if they enter the area of an antimagic effect. So, does the antimagic field only zap incorporeal undead, or do shadow demons have reason to fear the field? |
| Dunamin05-26-07, 04:39 PM | I checked the PHB on Antimagic Field (p200), DMG on Antimagic (p290), the SRD on Antimagic Field (Spells A-B p7) and the SRD on Antimagic (Abilities and Conditions p2). They all say the same thing: Its only incorporeal undead that wink out (not "zap", they reemerge unharmed when the antimagic goes away). I don't know where you got the second quote. I see that source to read: Summoned or conjured creatures of any type, as well as incorporeal undead, wink out if they enter the area of an antimagic effect. |

| Dunamin05-26-07, 06:01 PM | http://www.d20srd.org/srd/specialAbilities.htm#antimagic The Hypertext d20 SRD is not the official SRD, and it is not affiliated with Wizards of the Coast. It is the independent creation of Jans Carton and a great ressource, but apparantly it is flawed. (but this is the first error I've become aware of) Here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/article/srd35) is the official SRD. You gain access to it by clicking the little "d20 System" logo on the left side of pages of the D&D Official Web Site. |
| TheGogmagog06-12-07, 07:41 AM | Have I gone loopy or is the text the same? Therefore no error? WOTC SRD:• Summoned or conjured creatures of any type, as well as incorporeal undead, wink out if they enter the area of an antimagic effect. They reappear in the same spot once the field goes away. D20SRD:Summoned or conjured creatures of any type, as well as incorporeal creatures, wink out if they enter the area of an antimagic effect. They reappear in the same spot once the field goes away. I believe all Jans has added is a more appealing background and convenient cross reference links. I consider it every bit as reliable as the WOTC plaintext version. I'm thinking D20SRD includes errata where the WOTC version can't be revised as it's a legal licence. |
| TheGogmagog06-12-07, 07:52 AM | To the original poster however, I believe shadow demons would blink out for the duration of the antimagic field. |
| lint trap06-12-07, 09:29 AM | I think the description was written back when the only incorporeal creatures in the game were undead. My guess is that the writers were trying to avoid an unkillable combo; since incorporeal creatures can only be harmed by magic, they'd be invulnerable within an Antimagic Field. So by RAW, an Unbodied or Joystealer would work fine in an Antimagic Field, but I'd houserule it to include all incorporeal creatures. |
