I want to make a wonderous item that has an antimagic shell spell on it. What would that cost? Would it be permenant? Would it cancel all spells or would spells be applied just not activated until the shell was down (if the item is removed or destroyed)? How about making something like a Brooch of Shielding that absorbs all magic rather then just magic missles. It would absord X points of damage (or spells levels) before it becomes unusable.

Example: A Belt of Antimagic, absorbs 30 points of spells level (either 30 1st level spells or 15 2nd level spells, or any combination totaling 30)

Already exists...rod of absorption

Absorption: This rod acts as a magnet, drawing spells or spell-like abilities into itself. The magic absorbed must be a single-target spell or a ray directed at either the character possessing the rod or her gear. The rod then nullifies the spell’s effect and stores its potential until the wielder releases this energy in the form of spells of her own. She can instantly detect a spell’s level as the rod absorbs that spell’s energy. Absorption requires no action on the part of the user if the rod is in hand at the time.
A running total of absorbed (and used) spell levels should be kept. The wielder of the rod can use captured spell energy to cast any spell she has prepared, without expending the preparation itself. The only restrictions are that the levels of spell energy stored in the rod must be equal to or greater than the level of the spell the wielder wants to cast, that any material components required for the spell be present, and that the rod be in hand when casting. For casters such as bards or sorcerers who do not prepare spells, the rod’s energy can be used to cast any spell of the appropriate level or levels that they know.
A rod of absorption absorbs a maximum of fifty spell levels and can thereafter only discharge any remaining potential it might have. The rod cannot be recharged. The wielder knows the rod’s remaining absorbing potential and current amount of stored energy.
To determine the absorption potential remaining in a newly found rod, roll d% and divide the result by 2. Then roll d% again: On a result of 71–100, half the levels already absorbed by the rod are still stored within.
Strong abjuration; CL 15th;Craft Rod, spell turning; Price 50,000 gp.

Hope that helps. :)

Anti-Magic is powerfull stuff.

First and foremost, it generally is INNappropriate to use the spell Anti-Magic field. That spell is intentionally balanced by being required to be cast on yourself, and of course to cast it you must be a magic user.

Instead use the spell Anti-Magic Aura, a 7th level version of the spell that can be cast on other people besides yourself. Or consider basing it on the Globe of invunerability spells.

Also, you need to decide is it defensive only or offensive. Much of the power of Anti-magic comes from stopping non spells and spells cast on other people (such as winking off flaming swords, and cancelling your victim's Stone skin).

Your original description seems to imply that you want a defense only, stopping people from attacking you. The way to do that is by Spell Resistance, not Anti-Magic.

There are already items like that. Take a look at the Ioun Stones.

A magic item that creates a permanent antimagic field? Isn't that an oxymoron?
Wouldn't such an item cease to function when first activated?

In the Forgotten Realms book Underdark there is an Anti-magic Torc that creates an AMF 1/day.
