| Ketone08-23-07, 09:24 PM | I have a question: Would antipathy and similar area spells extend onto the ethereal plane if cast on the material plane, and vice versa? |
| lint trap08-23-07, 09:25 PM | Nope. Spells that extend into the Ethereal are the exception, not the rule. Unless specifically stated otherwise (like with Force effects), spells are stuck on their own plane. |
| bigbythewise08-23-07, 10:20 PM | I have a question: Would antipathy and similar area spells extend onto the ethereal plane if cast on the material plane, and vice versa? Only Abjuration spells can extend from Material plane to Ethereal plane (not vice versa). For example, Dispel Magic or Mordenkainen Disjunction can affect ethereal caster. |

| Lafing Cat08-23-07, 10:50 PM | I didn't know that. Where are you getting this rule from? From the (SRD (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/specialAbilities.htm#etherealness)) description of the Etherealness ability A force effect originating on the Material Plane extends onto the Ethereal Plane, so that a wall of force blocks an ethereal creature, and a magic missile can strike one (provided the spellcaster can see the ethereal target). Gaze effects and abjurations also extend from the Material Plane to the Ethereal Plane. None of these effects extend from the Ethereal Plane to the Material Plane. |
