| Veldan Rath07-06-05, 04:13 PM | I like the touch/ranged touch spells, I really do, but as a DM I have a War Mage in the party, and a good chunck of his spells are ranged touch attack, no save, no SR. Are their any spells that make your regular AC/Armor to defend against against these spells. There is the Ghost Touch Armor spell from Libris Mortis...but that is only for incorporeal attacks, and 2nd level. I would think such a spell would be mid to high level. Any thoughts? |

I'd suggest against neutering the guy by having opponents just happen to have high touch AC in general. There's a reason spellcasters get touch spells-- because their BAB sucks in general. |
| tarkin07-06-05, 04:29 PM | A while ago I made one up, but it was complicated and high level. Better to just stick with the standards: Try Mirror Image, Blur, Displacement, etc. etc. |
| mvincent07-06-05, 04:36 PM | Some options to increase touch AC: Ring of protection High Dex (gloves of dex?) Tower shield (cover) Defending weapon Combat expertise Fight defensively Use a monk Use a will-o-wisp Or you could instead ready an action to disrupt his spell. |

That means that if he doesnt have precise shot he suffers a -4 penalty for firing into melee. If his allies are between him and his enemies, then they provide the badguys with a +4 soft cover bonus to AC. Those two things combined will effectively raise a touch AC by 8 points, which makes things far more difficult for a poor BAB class. Other than that, concealment of any type works well. Potions of displacement are good for this. Anyone can use them, they are relatively inexpensive, and they dont leave magical items for the party to plunder. The first level cleric spell entropic shield will give a 20% miss chance against all ranged attacks, including rays and the like. |

Very true, but most of these spells are also No Save and No SR. This guy uses Acid Orb: Does 10d6 damage and the save is only to negate being sickened...then add his Edge Ability... Granted: 4th level spell, needs to hit (ranged touch), and only one target but he gets alot of these a day. Just tough to plan against... |

| smrtgmp07-06-05, 04:50 PM | the warmage edge ability only adds damage to evocation spells. The orb spells are conjuration. DOH! Thanks! No problem. Always glad to help. :) Another thing to try is several enemies of slightly lower CR in place of one enemy of a higher CR. In such situations, attacking a single enemy with your spells is often suboptimal. Its also a more subtle way of making such spells less effective, which means the PC in question wont feel like he's being picked on. |

I can't find that under the Warmage Edge description...it says: casts a spell that deals hit point damage, he adds his Intelligence bonus... Was there an Errata I missed? |
| Elgonn07-06-05, 05:12 PM | Was there an Errata I missed? No. It works on anything that does hit point damage. |
| Dartanel07-06-05, 06:54 PM | There's a Psionic feat in Races of Stone I believe that allows you to use your armor against touch attacks. |

| Warmage-in-Onley07-10-05, 10:05 PM | Though not a spell, there's a feat in Lords of Madness called Parrying Shield that allows you to use your shield and its enhancement bonus for calculating your touch AC. |
| mikevw207-10-05, 10:28 PM | What about globe of invulnerability? 5th level spell, makes caster immune to all spell effects of 4th level or lower, including all those orb spells. |
