| LiamDeclan10-09-06, 12:07 AM | Is there anything out there that grants shadowy illumination or something like that besides Darkness and Deeper Darkness? |
| Wind of Darkness10-09-06, 12:10 AM | Not that I'm aware of, no. Any particular reason why you need a spell other than darkness to create shadowy illumination with? |
| LiamDeclan10-09-06, 12:28 AM | Want to be able to have shadows available for hiding in, without having the Darkness spell which would also give my enemies concealment against my attack rolls. The spell Darkness trumps out over darkvision/lowlight, I was looking for something that adjusted the illumination around me that wouldn't also hinder my vision. |
| Loki565410-09-06, 01:25 AM | Use a darkness spell and then duct-tape a gem of seeing (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/wondrousItems.htm#gemofSeeing) to your face.:D |
| LiamDeclan10-09-06, 02:41 AM | Use a darkness spell and then duct-tape a gem of seeing (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/wondrousItems.htm#gemofSeeing) to your face.:D ;) Yeah this would really fit the flavor of my sneaky character. not. |
| User512710-09-06, 08:51 AM | what about a lower level spell that creates a darkness effect, but then add in something like Faerie fire to get small candle like flames thus creating shadowy illumination. and can't shadow dancers eventually hide in plain sight? but yea, a lower level darkness would create shadowy illumination, and its not a game breaking request to create/research it. ask your dm. as well, since it would fit into your character concept, name the spell after yourself. ^_^ "LiamDeclan's Shadows" or something. *shrugs* |
| Wind of Darkness10-09-06, 09:33 AM | and can't shadow dancers eventually hide in plain sight? At first level in the class. They need shadows to do it, though. Any shadow other than their own. Hang on... AHA! I forgot about it last night, but there is one spell I know of in Heroes of Battle. It's called early twilight, and it reduces illumination by one step (so from normal to shadowy, but low light vision and darkvision still work) in an 80ft radius cylinder. It's Clr 4, Hexblade 4, Sor/Wiz 4. Probably 4th level because of the huge area of effect (and it lasts a while, too). |
| Dheran10-09-06, 11:23 AM | Why not just use Darkness/Deeper Darkness (boy, I just hate that name -- it's not deeper, and it's not darkness) and use Ebon Eyes so it doesn't impair your vision? |
| LiamDeclan10-09-06, 01:31 PM | Okay thanks for the help so far. I guess I should tell you what it is I am up to so far. 5th level Swordsage with the Dark Creature Template that gives me Hide in Plain Sight. I need to find a way when I bring this character into the campaign to be able to have shadows readily available for me to hide in. I need something that won't hinder my darkvision as well. Might have to pick up an arcane class to get Ebon Eyes or even grab Warlock for the Devil's Sight or whatever thats called. I still am going to look for a spell that wouldn't hinder me or allies. |
| LiamDeclan10-09-06, 02:49 PM | Man I really should be doing something else right now, like balancing my checkbook but I'm not. Anyway does Early Twilight when it gives me shadowy illumination hinder anyone without darkvision? Do they still have a miss chance to hit or be hit? |
| IceFractal10-09-06, 03:52 PM | Dusk, from the BoVD. It's a cantrip which is similar to Darkness, but it creates non-magical darkness (in which Darkvision works), and is a smaller area. |
| IMarvinTPA10-09-06, 04:00 PM | Darklight (http://www.imarvintpa.com/dndLive/spells.php?ID=4447) seems to be exactly what you want. Here's the rest of the darkness descriptor (http://www.imarvintpa.com/dndLive/DescriptorIndexS.php?Descriptor=Darkness ). IMarv |
| Wind of Darkness10-09-06, 06:13 PM | Anyway does Early Twilight when it gives me shadowy illumination hinder anyone without darkvision? Do they still have a miss chance to hit or be hit? Yes. That's how shadowy illumination works. Nothing to do with the spell. |

I didn't see anything by the name of that spell, but did you mean No Light? It is a cantrip and does what you said Dusk did. I think this is perfect. |
