| shadow_js12-07-04, 05:40 PM | I feel that the sleep spell should be able to get better as the caster improves, has anyone made a version of the sleep spell that improves? If so how did it work? Thanks for all your suggestions/help in advance. |
| Seeker9512-07-04, 07:54 PM | Better in what capacity? |
| shadow_js12-07-04, 08:33 PM | better in that when you start getting higher in levels the spell becomes useless. I was thinking about making a sleep spell that effects more HD of creatures as you gain levels. |

| Vaalingrade Ashland12-07-04, 09:13 PM | DS is still pathet-a-sad. What we need is a spell with a single target with Will Save or sleep. Inspire Stillness Enchantment Level: Sor/Wiz 2, Clr 1 Components: V, S, M Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: Touch Target: One creature touched Duration: see text Saving Throw: Will negates Spell Resistance: Yes Touching the target, you send them into a peaceful, dreamless, slumber. The creature falls asleep standing up and does not wake up unless roused by anything that would normally awaken them. Material Component: A drop of warm milk Verbal Component: "May flights of angels sing you to rest." |
| Seeker9512-08-04, 08:48 AM | The spell Vaal provided is good until the will save against a 1st level spell becomes laughable, relegating it to the same dust bin in which we eventually find sleep. This is an obstacle inherent in the system of magic. Low level non-damage-effect spells that don't permit a saving throw cap out on who they can affect. Low level spells that do permit a save become incredibly easy to laugh at when used against higher level opponents. The higher level caster cannot rely upon low level spells against high level opponents. The wise caster acknowledges this and finds other means. |
| shadow_js12-08-04, 11:42 AM | There is always going to be problems with low level spells that don't do damage, however what about a hight level sleep spell (say around level 6)? With the increase in levels wouldn't you be able to up the save and HD that it affects? Thanks so far for the comments. |
| Seeker9512-08-04, 12:07 PM | A higher level spell has an inherently higher save DC. So yes, if you make a 6th level sleep spell, it will be as hard to save against as any other 6th level spell. **************************8 Sleeping Beauty Enchantment (Compulsion) [Mind-Affecting] Level: Sor/Wiz 6 Components: V, S, M Casting Time: 1 round Range: Medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level) Area: One or more living creatures within a 10-ft.-radius burst Duration: Until countered Saving Throw: Will negates Spell Resistance: Yes A sleeping beauty spell causes a magical slumber to come upon a single creature. This slumber lasts until a special trigger is met. The trigger is set by the caster. [List of triggers? Kiss, obviously. What else?] A sleeping beauty is helpless. Slapping or wounding an sleeping beauty will not awaken an affected creature. Only the selected trigger will work. Awakening a creature is a standard action. Material Component: A red apple. **************************** You can do more or less with it, naturally. |
| Vaalingrade Ashland12-08-04, 12:40 PM | Somnic Wave Enchantment Level: Sor/Wiz 7, Clr 6 Components: V, S, M Casting Time: 1 standard action Effect: 30ft radius burst, centered on the caster Target: One creature/ two levels Duration: see text Saving Throw: Will negates Spell Resistance: Yes You send out a surge of deeply calming emotion, sending up to one target creature per two caster levels in a 30ft burst around you into a peaceful, dreamless, slumber. The creatures fall asleep standing up and do not wake up unless roused by anything that would normally awaken them. Material Component: A gallon of warm milk Verbal Component: "To sleep perchance to dream." |
| Kyy'Dakh12-08-04, 12:50 PM | Type of sleep spell I'd like to see: Conjures a puff of inhaled poison with sleep/unconsciouness effects. Anyone got a quick write-up for that? |
| Kyaran12-08-04, 02:29 PM | Type of sleep spell I'd like to see: Conjures a puff of inhaled poison with sleep/unconsciouness effects. Anyone got a quick write-up for that?A challenge, huh? :D Sleeping Gas Conjuration (Creation) Level: Sor/Wiz 3 Components: V,S Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: Medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level) Effect: Cloud spreads in 20-ft. radius, 20 ft. high Duration: 1 round/level Saving Throw: Fortitude negates; see text Spell Resistance: No Sleeping gas creates a cloud of fog similar to that created by fog cloud, except that the vapors are poisonous and nearly invisible. To see a cloud of sleeping gas (or its boundaries) a creature must succeed on a Spot check DC 25. Living, breathing creatures in the cloud must succeed on a Fortitude saving throw or take 1d6 non-lethal damage each round on your turn. Any creature that takes any damage from this spell must make a secondary Fortitude save at the beginning of their first round following the damage. The secondary save DC is equal to the cumulative amount of non-lethal damage dealt × spell level. If this save is failed, the creature falls into a sleeping state like that induced by the sleep spell. As with fog cloud, these vapors can be dispersed by wind. Unlike fog cloud, this spell functions underwater against creatures that breathe via gills or spells such as water breathing. The vapors do not block sight beyond 5 feet or give concealment. If a creature is holding its breath, it gains a +6 bonus on saves against the primary effect of this spell. Creatures immune to poison are unaffected by this spell. Notes: I made the secondary save DC spell level dependent so as to provide a further use for Heighten Spell. I waffled between 3rd and 4th level, but decided that it's no worse than stinking cloud. |
