| Verelor04-23-06, 09:12 PM | Long-winded title? maybe. :) I'm not easily tracking it in either the combat section or magic section of the Player's Handbook, so I'd like to get a clarification for myself and the entire community to better understand. 1. If a spell has no somatic components, does it still provoke an attack of opportunity? 2. If a spell has no material components, does it still provoke an attack of opportunity? 3. If a spell has no focus/divine focus components, does it still provoke an attack of opportunity? |
| Seeker9504-23-06, 09:25 PM | Casting a spell provokes an attack of opportunity, regardless of its components. |
| Novacat04-23-06, 09:38 PM | You may also want to note that Spell-Like Abilities, which have no components at all, also provoke attacks of opportunity. |
| Nom04-23-06, 11:23 PM | I can think of two common exceptions: Spells cast as a free action don't provoke AoOs (see "casting time", PH chapter 10). Spells cast defensively don't provoke AoOs. Failing the Con. check causes the spell to be lost but no AoO is provoked. |
