| spikegif02-06-07, 06:25 PM | I am looking for a good Arcane cure spell. I know the bard has one, but I need one that can/is found on the Sorcerer spell list. Any 3.5 WotC product have such a spell? spikegif |
| CantripN02-06-07, 06:31 PM | Healing Touch (3rd level, SpC) or Synostodweomer (7th, SpC). For a Sorcerer, Synostodweomer is better. It lets you sacrifice another spell to heal. Healing Touch is a reverse Vampiric Touch. Check SpC for more details. |
| Vashwood02-06-07, 06:32 PM | Light of Venya, from Planar Handbook. |
| ElyasRavenwood02-06-07, 07:11 PM | I have found only one way to give Sorcerer/wizards access to Cure spells. There may be others. I see some of the others have specific spells Here is what I have found. Arcane Disciple CD 79 Choose a deity, and then select a domain available to clerics of that deity. You can learn to cast spells associated with that domain as arcane spells. Once you take this feat, you must choose a deity to worship, and then you can add the spells from one of the domains the deity offers. You add the spells from this domain to your spell list. You can only cast one of these spells per day per level. In order to get the healing domain you must worship Pelor. As far as I know Pelor is the only god that offers the healing domain. For example, if you are a wizard, you can memorize and cast 1 cure light wounds spell, and at 3rd level, 1 cure moderate wounds spells etc. I believe for a sorcerer, you add the spells of the healing domain, to your Spells known list, and you may only cast cure light wounds spontaneously 1 per day. I am not entirely sure of the rules; one of my players nipped my Complete Devine. I am sure it will be back next Sunday. There is one other way, but it is campaign specific. In Dragon #351 on page 77 they describe a feat called Dragon marked sorcerer. This feat allows you to add to your list of spells known all of the spells from houses least lesser and greater dragon mark feat list. I may be wrong about this, but I think this means if you are a Halfling of house Jorasco, you can get the abilities of this houses least lesser and greater dragon marks added to your spell list. I think this might include cure light wounds and the like. I may be wrong about this. On a second reading it says all sorcerer spells. That might nix what I just suggested. There are other options. Non clerical healing. Psionics offers some healing from the psychometabolic discipline. Transmutation Psychometabolism- Healing) 1) Touch of health -1 pp = 2 hit points 2) Empathic transfer, Transfer 2d10 hps, and take 1d10 hit points. transfer, one disease, poison or ability damage. (not drain) From the brink, Stabilize and heal someone at 1 hp at range, bring them up to 0 at a 1 pp to 1 hp. 3) Body adjustment- Heal 1d12 hit points Body purification- cure disease, poison, or ability damage from self. 4)- 5) Psionic revivify, - Raise dead Restore extremity re-grow limbs etc 6) Psionic restoration- same as restoration. . The only other opinion I can think of comes from the Robert Jordan Wheel of Time put out by Wizards of the coast In this world there is no division between arcane and divine magic. There is no divine magic. Here is there healing Arcane Healing Delve Lvl 0-3 By touching the target you learn what injuries diseases poisons or super natural damage may be affecting him now or recently. 0 wounds or injuries 1 disease 2 poison 3 supernatural effects. Heal You lay your hands upon a living creature to convert its wounds from standard damage to subdual damage. The damage thus converted heals at the normal rate for subdual damage at 1 hp/ hr/ level of character Lvl casting time converted hit points 0 1 action 1 hp 1 full action 1d8+ caster lvl 2 1 minute 2d8+ caster lvl 3 10 min 3d8 “ 4 10 4d8 5 20 5d8 6 20 6d8 7 30 7d8 8 30 8d8 I know one of the hard lines D and D game, is that cure light wounds is the province of divine magic and clerics. However I am not sure how bards get the spells as arcane casters. Another question for another day. I hope this helps. Is Spc the Spell Compendium? I am interested in looking these spells up thanks. |
| kadeity02-06-07, 07:33 PM | Bards can heal. Bards cast arcane magic. Bards can take the feat scribe scroll. Bards can make Arcane Healing Scrolls. Wizards can Learn Arcane Spells from Arcane Scrolls. Why cant a Wizard learn the bards healing spells? And why doesnt he? |

| Magrus02-06-07, 07:59 PM | The Arcane Disciple feat and Healing Domain option was already posted, so I'll take two more methods: The Dracolexi PrC in Dragon Magic (I think it's this class), allows for a special ability to be chosen which allows you to heal when casting spells, or something of the sort. There is a PrC called the Wyrm Wizard (Dragon Magic as well I believe), which allows for casters to pick a spell from any spell list and add it to his spells known. There is a feat in Races of the Wild, I forget the name. With it, when succeeding on a Knowledge Nature check, DC 15+ Spell Level, you heal a certain amount of damage per spell level to the target of the spell. Useful in some ways for a wizard when buffing allies or himself (Mage Armor, Shield, Bulls Strength, Mirror Image, Invisibility, etc). Nothing major, but it would help a bit with some builds for lower level campaigns. |
| runestar02-06-07, 10:14 PM | You could use limited wish to duplicate the heal spell(it is a 5th lv divine spell for adepts). |
| The_sleeper102-06-07, 10:37 PM | If your race was a construct you could heal yourself rather nicely. Arcane ability to heal constructs equals cleric ability to heal reg damage. |
| Votan02-06-07, 10:45 PM | Be careful what you wish for; not being able to cast curing spells preserves the arcane caster's spells for other uses. Healing can be a limitless drain on spell resources and tends to be less fun to play a medic who is too busy healing to cast nasty spells. |

| Max the Immortal02-07-07, 02:31 AM | You may want to check the lists of creatures you can summon with the Summon Monster spells. Some may have healing spells or spell-like abilities. I read something a while back about summoning multiple fomorian workers, but I'm too lazy to check right now. |
| runestar02-07-07, 08:28 AM | Snag a ghaele with planar binding - it has cure light wounds at will...:P |
| risner02-07-07, 08:58 AM | Wizards can Learn Arcane Spells from Arcane Scrolls. Why cant a Wizard learn the bards healing spells? And why doesnt he? You can't be serious? Wizard absolutely 100% without doubt of possibility of failure can not learn just any arcane scroll. The name of the scroll (in this case Cure Light Wounds for example) must exist on the Wizard class spell list to be prepared and cast by the Wizard (check wizard class writeup). |
| [GSV] Kirstar02-07-07, 10:19 AM | There is a feat somewhere called White necromancy that allows wizards to add curelight wounds to their spell list same as a bard. Wizards shouldnt have cure magic |
| tarkin02-07-07, 11:00 AM | Two more spells that are Arcane Healing type things have not been mentioned. Many of the Polymorph spells offer some healing as part of the spell. False Life and other spells offer Temp hitpoints, which in many ways can be better than healing. Specifically, False life is a great spell to cast BEFORE the battle begins, as it lasts for hours. Better to cast the spell before you need the healing instead of in the middle of the battle when you could instead be casting a fireball. |
| Vaalingrade Ashland02-07-07, 01:07 PM | Kirstar;11414085']Wizards shouldnt have cure magic You're telling me that a man can slap the laws of physics into a whimpering pile of crying and snot to make his morning coffee, yet he shouldn't be able to close wounds? |
| tarkin02-07-07, 02:00 PM | We are telling you that healing is more complex than damage, and that mages are masters of QUANTITY, while clerics are masters of QUALITY. That is, a mage is metaphyiscally strong enough to lift a giant blade, but it takes a cleric to use the fine detail to wield a scalpel. And we even let mages do some curing, just not as well as mages (spells listed above are fine examples, including polymorph and simbul's systanodweomer). Not that hard a concept to understand. |
| Loki565402-07-07, 02:00 PM | You're telling me that a man can slap the laws of physics into a whimpering pile of crying and snot to make his morning coffee, yet he shouldn't be able to close wounds? The gods don't let wizards do that. They've got a very good union. |
| DarkSorcerer02-07-07, 02:09 PM | You're telling me that a man can slap the laws of physics into a whimpering pile of crying and snot to make his morning coffee, yet he shouldn't be able to close wounds? Yep. As a means of game mechanics, everywhere in the rulebooks that deal with adding spells and creating new spells explicitly state wizards should not be allowed to cast healing type spells. There is a great phobia that people would quit playing clerics if wizards could cure. If you need your sorc to heal, take a couple of (crossclass) skill ranks in Use Magic Device and Magical Aptitude Feat and get a wand of CureSeriousWounds. If you REALLY want to get serious about it, take a level of Rogue and sink ALL the skill points into UMD. Wands have a flat 20 DC required to use. With your high Cha mod you should be able to use the wand fairly effectively. |
| vadikin02-07-07, 02:48 PM | don't forget about Timeheal from Dragonlance's Towers of High Sorcery book... its the best wizo healing spell ever! |
| Schmendrick02-07-07, 04:25 PM | You're telling me that a man can slap the laws of physics into a whimpering pile of crying and snot to make his morning coffee, yet he shouldn't be able to close wounds? In short, yes. He shouldn't. The division between magic is not as simple as arcane/divine (which I'm sure you know, Vaal, but others seem to confuse this point). The wizard can't cast cure spells for the same reason the bard can't cast fireballs. It doesn't fit the intended role of the class. Both a wizard and a bard may be able to cast Summon Monster, and do it as an arcane spell, but that doesn't mean it's the exact same spell. Fireball is just "cross class" for a bard, as is Cure Light Wounds for a wizard. If you don't like the flavor, feel free to change it. It's a free world, and the existing ruleset is designed to be a "common standard," not inexorable universal law. |
| Kal11502-07-07, 04:29 PM | Innate spell anyone, of course it is for later level (cuz u needa permanetnly los a spell 8 lvs higher to charge it but hey 1 or 1d8+5/round equal full healing for each new encouter) |
| Vaalingrade Ashland02-07-07, 04:47 PM | And for bits of bad game design like this, the gods made Extra Spell. |
| CantripN02-07-07, 04:49 PM | I sense a disturbance in the force... Speak not of this "Extra Spell". |
| Adrian_Crane02-07-07, 05:03 PM | I seem to remember reading a spell that let you store some life force--HP that you take subdual damage to bank--into a gem for later recovery. It was in...Races of the Dragon? Found it. Races of the Dragon. Hoard life. SORCERER ONLY...no Wizards. Take 2*CL subdual, become fatigued, store that same amount of HP within a gem (1 hr/CL). Anytime that the spell is still good, you can heal that same amount of HP. No AoOs, can't take you past max HP. |
| CantripN02-07-07, 05:10 PM | That's preety awesome, man! I'll try to get it past my DM. |
