| Lia The Sun Elf Wizard07-29-06, 04:17 PM | In dungeon master guide, there are ARCANE CURE scrolls in the list of arcane scrolls. Is it right? How is it possible? Who make these ARCANE cure scrolls? |
| Seerow07-29-06, 04:20 PM | Bards. |
| Witchblade07-29-06, 04:20 PM | I've no idea to be honoust. I hadn't noticed yet. I guess it's either a misprint or something meant for classes I don't know. It's useless for Wiz/Sorcs because the spells aren't on their spell list. |
| Thane2642507-29-06, 04:45 PM | There are a few arcane "healing" spells. They work by allowing the arcane caster to transfer the wounds of another to themself. One of these is the 3rd level Healing Touch from the Book of Exalted Deeds. It heals up to 1d6/2 levels (caster chooses how many dice) to another but causes the same amount to the caster. This really a simplification of several like spells from 2nd edition. So, unless the caster has a lot of hit points and the means to regenerate them without divine aid, it doesn't make a lot of sense, unless the caster keeps a scroll or two in case their familiar takes some hits and the clearic is busy. |
| Lia The Sun Elf Wizard07-29-06, 04:45 PM | How stupid of me... yeah, these are bard's spells. But a wizard or sorcerer can use these scrolls? |
| Artix_the_Incarnate07-29-06, 05:02 PM | I don't think Wizards or Sorcerors can use them because those spells are not on their class list. |
| smrtgmp07-29-06, 06:18 PM | You are correct. Unless a spell is on your spell list, you cant cast it from a scroll (without UMD). |
| risner07-29-06, 06:35 PM | But a wizard or sorcerer can use these scrolls? No |
| runestar07-29-06, 10:17 PM | If he succeeds at a UMD check, sure... :P |

The high level wizard who shapechanges into a troll, ogre mage or other creature with regeneration or fast healing could find fair use for this spell, especially if the party has no divine caster... Otherwise, you might use vampiric touch on an enemy first, and hope that the healing touch doesn't drink all the temporary hit points stolen by that spell. The synostodweomer and the light of venya spells are other healing spells available to sorcerers and wizards, but neither allows for any rivalry with a druid, paladin, or cleric. |
| tarkin07-31-06, 11:44 AM | You left out False Life, which in many ways is better than a healing spell. The duration is long enough to cast it before battle, instead of after. Also note, merely using Positive Energy is not enough to do healing. Read Laurell K Hamilton's Ravenloft book "Death of a Darklord" for a good description of what might happen when a Wizard type thinks they can heal and uses Positive Energy. Being Ravenloft, the result is not that hard to predict. |
