| BlaineTog03-19-04, 09:32 PM | The Theory goes that armor impedes the complex hand motions needed to cast an arcane spell. This is why you don't suffer ASF when the spell doesn't have a Somatic Component, or you use the Still Spell Metamagic on it. Personally, I think it's an unecessay nerf of the arcane casters since the Divine casters are just so powerful, but that's just my opinion. Here's how the mechanic works: If you wear armor and try to cast a spell, you roll 2 d10s and designate one as the hundreds die and the other as the 1s die. If you roll and hit a number underneath the % value given, then the spell fails (ie isn't cast). That's why you rarely see sorcerers or wizards in armor, and why Bards only wear Light armor (since they are exempt from ASF of light armor). |
