The archmage ability of Arcane Fire, is a supernatural ability.

My question is firstly...is it a fire based spell?

I don't believe it is...but...

Can the other archmage ability to change the type of energy be used to make it fire based, or cold based, or acid based?

TIA

not a spell.

and the closest to this you'd get really would be Mastery of Elements. with that, as long as yer gm doesn't nix it, there's no reason why you can't change energy types.

What I am curious about is whether or not it can be altered via the mastery of elements ability of the archmage?

Say you are fighting something that is vulnerable to cold or fire...can you alter the arcane fire via the mastery of elements ability to make it do more damage?

No, for two reasons.

The archmage can alter an arcane spell when cast so that it utilizes a different element from the one it normally uses. This ability can only alter a spell with the acid, cold, fire, electricity, or sonic descriptor

First of all, Arcane Fire isn't a spell, its an Su ability.

Second of all, it doesn't have any of the appropriate descriptors.
