A sorcerer starts their turn with the following Greater Arcane Fusion->Arcane Fusion/Celerity Arcane Fusion->Celerity/Magic Missile ***The player has Mark of the Dauntless from Dragonmarked making him immune to the daze effect of Celerity*** The Sorcerer now has 2 standard actions and can repeat this until he runs out of 8th/9th level spell slots. With Arcane Thesis its possible to lower the spell level as low as 6th, so a lvl 20 sorcerer with a 44 cha could burn all their 6th-9th level slots granting them 180d4+180 magic missile damage, and 72 standard actions to cast other spells they have of 5th level or lower. Is this broken and are there any rules problems with this? A_D |

However, this is what is commonly called a nova. Essentially the character is using up all or most of his resources at once to create a massive effect. There is a hidden cost though; the character will be almost useless for the rest of the day. If the DM is throwing multiple encounters (they balanced the game around four encounters per day) per day then the character will quickly learn the value of proper resource management, and will only use the technique when the situation is especially dire, it basically becomes an all or nothing last ditch attempt to save the party. If, however, the DM is only running one or two encounters per day the character will abuse the tactic far too often. |
