| kiryasd12-06-06, 06:02 AM | I just found the sorceror only (!) spell "Arcane Fusion" in Complete Mage. I started to think about some nice combos, but did not come up with any great ones. I thought you could use it together with the feat "Energy Gestalt" from Complete Mage, but then noticed, that Energy Gesalt requires you to cast spells in two consecutive rounds rather than in one. So has anyone some nice ideas? |

| runestar12-06-06, 08:17 AM | What does said spell do?:P |
| Puca12-06-06, 09:43 AM | It lets you cast two lower-level spells you know in one casting. I dont recall the levels off the top of my head, but the example smtgmp used works, a 4th level and a 1st. I think Arcane Fusion is itself a 5th-level spell. The other nice thing about it is that the casting of Arcane Fusion, bringing into effect 2 spells, is itself a single standard action, so you could still theoretically cast a swift-action spell in the same round. |
| runestar12-06-06, 09:50 AM | Sounds like the merge spell(or something like that) from the 2ed module: Cult of the Dragon.:) Any limits on the spells which can be merged?(like any limits on the sum of both spell lvs?). |
| kiryasd12-06-06, 09:57 AM | There are 2 versions: The first is: use up a 5th level spell slot, cast a 1st and a 4th level spell (you know of course, lower than 4th level is OK, too) in the same round. You can determine the order of the spells. I do not remember the other spell's name, something like Greater arcane fusion or so; IIRC the mechanics are: Use up 8th slot, cast 7th and 4th level spells in the same round. @Puca: Are you allowed to take 2 magic actions in the same round? For example Haste explicitely forbids you to cast 2 spells in the same round. I am not sure about the rules for swift actions and I do not have my copy of Complete Adventurer/Mage here. |
| Puca12-06-06, 10:44 AM | Most spells are a Standard Action to cast. Quickened spells used to be considered a free-action, with a one-per-round limitation. Now, they are considered Swift Actions (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/combat/actionsInCombat.htm#swiftActions), and it basically amounts to the same thing: you can get one spell per round as a swift action, either Quickened or if it already has a casting time of Swift Action. Because the casting time of Arcane Fusion is a single standard action, you still have a swift action available to you in the round you cast it. Haste forbids the casting of two spells because the fact that you are faster doesnt mean it takes less time to cast a spell. That rule is limited to the specific conditions of Haste. |
