| Ezekiel (NL)02-16-06, 01:06 PM | I'm building an arcane spellcaster and I know my DM loves high level (intelligent) undead. What would be the coolest spell(s) to use against powerfull undead (any kind, ie liches, vampires, deathknights etc). Gimme your ideas |
| tarkin02-16-06, 01:27 PM | At high levels, few things beat a good Sunburst. 80ft radius catches everything, does 1d6/level max of 25d6, save for 1/2. And on a failed save it entirely destroys any undead vunerable to sunlight. |
| Wyrd Bearer02-16-06, 01:34 PM | Disintegrate. Undead have terrible fort saves and disintegrate works on objects. This means that all those high level undead your DM likes are piles of dust. Acid fog. No save, no spell resistance and I cannot think of any undead that are resistant to acid damage off the top of my head. |
| dvlsadvct02-16-06, 02:18 PM | Protection from evil, not the coolest but helpful. Undeath to death. |
| Melpomene02-16-06, 02:40 PM | Force effects, such as Magic Missile and Bigby's Hands. Incorporeal undead take real issue with force. Speaking of which, See Invisable and True Seeing. At high levels, spells which trap souls (such as soul jar) or which can glean the identity of phylactory are important. Little bug(bears) have a tendancy to not die when they really should. |
| Father Dale02-16-06, 04:17 PM | All good spells that have been mentioned. The Spell Compendium also has some good arcane spells for combating undead. I think there is a Greater Disrupt Undead spell at 2nd or 3rd lvl that does significant damage to an undead creature. The various Force spells of course work great on incorporeal undead. There was a force spell that creatures a barrier that hedges out incorporeal undead if they fail a save, but I can't remember what the name of it was. |
| gradea02-16-06, 05:57 PM | Your basicly looking for anything that doesnt let them use their will save (fort save is prefered). Force effects Vs the incorporial. Spells that bolster your will saves (to protect against fear) and fort saves (to protect against energy drain, ability damage, disease, and a lot of other things.) Antimagic field is great against undead that don't require a magic weapon to penetrate their DR and if they use magic themselves. |
