| taltamir01-12-05, 04:38 PM | Hi everyone. I wanted to start a collection of arcane symbols to use within games. Links to sites containing such symbols are welcome. If you can draw some yourself, please feel free to post aswell. The idea is to get some symbols that one could later print and use, or use in photoshop (ie, take a string of arcane symbols, take a picture of a sword, edit the symbols unto the sword, write up the swords statistics, print, and give to the player who found it). |
| Zitchas01-13-05, 06:28 AM | While I don't have any links on me, I recommend checking out Japanese and Oriental scripts. While some of them look simply, well, oriental, quite a few look decidedly mystical and/or magical. Especially depending on how you write them. (They have the equivalent to fonts, too. Some will look more like runes than others) |
| Seeker9501-13-05, 11:11 AM | I just typed the word symbol into www.google.com (Images) and got 263,000 hits. Of the first 20, only two images were NOT what I would call usable symbols as you described. |
| Zitchas01-13-05, 12:30 PM | Well, I tried doing that (searching google) for "rune" but come up with a lot of the comp game and not too many of the symbol type. Just for convenience, here's a link to the google search for symbol. For the lazy or just to speed things up. http://images.google.ca/images?q=symbol&hl=en&btnG=Google+Search Here's one of the better sites to come up in the search for rune. http://www.aasimagick.com/runedesc.gif Hopefully this helps. Here's a link to the search for oriental symbols. It turns up an intresting selection too. http://images.google.ca/images?hl=en&lr=&q=oriental+symbol&btnG=Search Anyway, again, hopefully it all helps. |
| taltamir01-13-05, 04:17 PM | I searched google for symbol, and none of the first 20 entries had any mystical looking ones... Please give specific SITES, not "search google for so and so" or a link to a google search. (it also has to look good ;p) The celtic runes are cool, thanks. I actually own a staff IRL with those on it. :) I will not use asian languages, sorry. A player can be a speaker of such a language and it will ruin the mood. Anyways, when I say symbols I dont mean as in letters, I mean mostly drawings and diagrams etc that look arcane in nature. |
| Seeker9501-13-05, 05:35 PM | If you don't think any of the first 20 look "mystical" I suspect you may need to provide an example of something you do like before we could provide any sites that will apeal to you. Of the first 20 (the first page for me) there were 4 that I would consider perfect for "arcane symbols": Shoulder (http://www.bobafettfanclub.com/manual/tattoo/shoulder-symbol.jpg) Fractal (http://sprott.physics.wisc.edu/fractals/collect/2002/Symbol%252001c.jpg) More from there (http://sprott.physics.wisc.edu/fractals/collect/2002/?plain) Not Sure What to Call (http://cdnd.winduprecords.com/dp/artwork/symbol.jpg) |
| taltamir01-13-05, 05:53 PM | no actually, the first 20 results I got were mostly COMPANIES. They didnt have any symbols whatsoever in them. |
| PhaedrusXY01-13-05, 07:11 PM | Diablo 2 had runes and rune words, which I thought were pretty cool. You can read about them (and see the runes) here: http://diabloii.calcon.net/runes.shtml There are other sites with this info also, I'm sure. That was just one of the first ones in the google search I did on diablo 2 runes. |
| Bane01-13-05, 08:43 PM | How about Illumian sigils? (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ag/20041217a) Or angelic script? (http://www.steliart.com/angelology_angelic_scripts.html) This has a lot of runes. (http://www.sunnyway.com/runes/links2.html) Hope this helps. |
