| Kyuketsukiouji11-09-03, 11:59 AM | The archmage narrowed his eyes angrilly. "A test?" he muttered with barely contained anger "You want to test me? What do you think I am, some kind of apprentice?!" "Exactly", the dark figure sitting before him replied with a sarcastic smile. ============================= Simple test. I print an incomplete spell, you fill it in, and tell me *why* you chose your answer. There is, of course, no *right* answer, but the point is more for me to see how people think, and maybe get some ideas. Globe of Invulnerability, Greater Abjuration Level: Sor/Wiz 9 Components: V, S, M Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: 10 ft. Area: 10-ft.-radius spherical emanation, centered on you Duration: 1 round/level (D) Saving Throw: None Spell Resistance: No An immobile, faintly shimmering magical sphere surrounds you and excludes all spell effects of BLANK level or lower. The area or effect of any such spells does not include the area of the greater globe of invulnerability. Such spells fail to affect any target located within the globe. Excluded effects include spell-like abilities and spells or spell-like effects from items. However, any type of spell can be cast through or out of the magical globe. Spells of BLANK+1 level and higher are not affected by the globe, nor are spells already in effect when the globe is cast. The globe can be brought down by a targeted dispel magic spell, but not by an area dispel magic. You can leave and return to the globe without penalty. Note that spell effects are not disrupted unless their effects enter the globe, and even then they are merely suppressed, not dispelled. If a given spell has more than one level depending on which character class is casting it, use the level appropriate to the caster to determine whether lesser globe of invulnerability stops it. Material Component: A glass or crystal bead that shatters at the expiration of the spell. Have fun. |
| tarkin11-09-03, 12:36 PM | Blank = 5 Minor is a 4th that stops 3 Regular is a 6th that stops 4 So it takes at least an 8 to stop 5 and at least a epic (10th) to stop 6 As you made it 9, so it is not good enough to stop 6. |
| Grynn11-09-03, 12:50 PM | Blank=all Why? There are other spells at level 9 that stop anything and do more than that. Prismatic Sphere stops any spell, spell like ability, supernatural ability, or weapon. It also decimates any creature trying to pass through it. |
| Kyuketsukiouji11-18-03, 03:59 PM | The archmaged glared at the dark figure sitting on a chair before him. "Another test?!?! What makes you think I'll put up with this?" "What indeed?", the figure answered. =================== (Yes, I know, it's a pretty cheap rip-off) Improved Magic Missile Evocation [Force] Level: Sor/Wiz BLANK Components: V, S Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: Medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level) Targets: Up to ten creatures, no two of which can be more than 15 ft. apart Duration: Instantaneous Saving Throw: None Spell Resistance: Yes A missile of magical energy darts forth from your fingertip and strikes its target, dealing 1d4+1 points of force damage. The missile strikes unerringly, even if the target is in melee combat or has less than total cover or total concealment. Specific parts of a creature can’t be singled out. Inanimate objects are not damaged by the spell. For every caster levels beyond 1st, you gain an additional missile to the maximum of ten missiles at 10th level or higher. If you shoot multiple missiles, you can have them strike a single creature or several creatures. A single missile can strike only one creature. You must designate targets before you check for spell resistance or roll damage. |
| Bunga11-18-03, 06:14 PM | I think I'd put this at 4. Its better than a Fireball, but not so much better (or indeed worse) than Improved Invis or Phantasmal Killer, imo. |
| Kyuketsukiouji05-05-04, 02:03 PM | I'm currently rereading all the threads I've posted/made, to archive them properly (and I'm really happy about all the "me too" posts, I've made). Didn't get too many comments on this one, so I'm bumping it to give it a second chance. |
| Kyuketsukiouji05-06-04, 12:26 PM | The archmage sighed in defeat. "Yes, yes...I know, I know...another test." "Now, you're starting to learn", smiled the figure. =================== Shield of Air Abjuration [Air] Level: Sor/Wiz BLANK Components: V, S Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: Personal Target: You Duration: 1 min./level (D) Shield of Air creates an invisible, tower shield-like mobile disk of solidified air that hovers in front of you. This plane of solid air provides full cover from one direction, without interfering with the protected being's own spells or attacks. A shield of air is composed of condensed air, and takes one round to dissipate when the spell ends, though it cannot be reoriented during that last round (and it does not retain it's ability to avoid the caster's own attacks during this dissipation period). Burst effects that dispel the shield prematurely therefore do not progress beyond it's area (unlike a fireball burning through a door), since the shield itself has not dissipated when these effect takes place. This spell cannot be cast in a location with no air to condense (such as underwater). |
| TheGnomishWizard05-06-04, 01:03 PM | I'd say level 2 only because it is MARGINALLY better than shield. Though I think it is kind of wierd that condense air will do much of anything. Especially not +4 AC. |
| Kyuketsukiouji05-06-04, 03:50 PM | You might want to brush up on what Tower Shields do if you think this is only "marginally better than Shield". Remember, unlike the Shield spell, this one does give cover, not a bonus to AC. As for wind, if Wind Wall can stop arrows, crossbow bolts and whatever else, a densely enough packed amount of air will stop flames and other things quite nicely, especially when laced with magic. |
| TheGnomishWizard05-06-04, 05:38 PM | Are you using 3.0 or 3.5? In 3.0 a tower shield gives only cover. In 3.5 they give +4 bonus to AC just when carrying it. Windwall doesn't "block" arrows it blows them off target. |
| Kyuketsukiouji05-06-04, 06:38 PM | Dammit, missed that change between 3.0 and 3.5 Editing the spell now. |
