| teethlikelions03-11-05, 05:48 PM | i was never that great at tactical combos, but tonight i'm going to play an old arcane trickster that i haven't played in god knows how long. he's a forest gnome Rog3/Trans8. naturally i have to babysit until game time, so brainstorming time is going to be cut to a minimum. if anyone has some good transmutation-based (or otherwise) spell combo ideas, please share. if i can think any of my old combos i'll post for future readers. |
| Jack Greylock03-11-05, 07:01 PM | Distract assailant 1st level Sorc/Wiz (complete arcane) is an excellent one for the Arcane Trickster. It is a swift action so you can cast it and another spell in the same round. It causes your enemy to make a will save or be flat footed for the round. Cast that and then a good old Scorching ray and you can get your sneak attack damage in at the same time, plus it is a ranged touch attack on a flat footed enemy so even with a lame BAB you still will have a hard time missing. |
| smrtgmp03-11-05, 07:15 PM | what are you prohibited schools? And why not rog3/trans5/AT3? |
| teethlikelions03-11-05, 09:07 PM | barred schools are abjuration and necromancy. and you're right, it id rog3/trans5/at3 |
| teethlikelions03-13-05, 03:51 PM | jack, i didn't find distract assailant in comp. arcane any idea where it might be? |
| smrtgmp03-14-05, 07:13 PM | Its in complete adventurer. There are a ton of great spells in there for an arcane trickster. Other than that, I would go with spells that increase movement (lots of those in transmutation), allow you to alter the perceptions of those around you (hooray for illusions), invisibility (and greater once you can cast it). Naturally, ray spells are great for a trickster, since you can add your sneak attack damage if the target is denied their dex damage. BTW-those are some rough prohibited schools, especially abjuration. You might want to sink some ranks into UMD so that you can use scrolls of Dispel Magic. If there are other casters in the group, its not as big of a deal. |
