| Starmage2109-21-07, 08:31 AM | they still need to provide expensive material components(more than 1 gp). |
| JulesCARV09-21-07, 08:35 AM | To confuse you with just the opposite of what Starmage21 said, all they need is a divine focus -- no need for the 100 gp pearl, which is the arcane material component. |
| Fabius Maximus09-21-07, 09:10 AM | I'd agree with Starmage. Costly components are usually exempt from the same spell//different casting mechanic/different power source rule. |
| Merestil Haye09-21-07, 09:28 AM | The answer is that the Archivist does not need to provide the material component, any more than a cleric with the Magic domain would. The actual rule.Divine Focus (DF) A divine focus component is an item of spiritual significance. The divine focus for a cleric or a paladin is a holy symbol appropriate to the character’s faith. If the Components line includes F/DF or M/DF, the arcane version of the spell has a focus component or a material component (the abbreviation before the slash) and the divine version has a divine focus component (the abbreviation after the slash). Thus the question to be asked is does the spell in question specify a material component for the spell or a material component for the spell as an arcane spell and a divine focus for the same spell as a divine spell? The SRD (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/identify.htm) shows that it is the latter. When cast as a divine spell, the material component is not needed. |
