Are all eldritch blasts considered to be the same spell-like ability? [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-18-06, 12:45 PM If a warlock takes the Maximize Spell-like ability feat, would this maximize all of his eldritch blast types (sickening blast, eldritch cone, etc.), or only the normal eldritch blast? I mean, would a warlock have to take Maximize Spell-like ability for every diferent kind of eldritch blast he wants to maximize, or would one do it for all?

03-18-06, 12:48 PM This was addressed in the FAQ, and the answer is "Yes." Anything you take that affects the eldritch blast affects it no matter which blast shapes or eldritch essences you apply to it.

Examples:

At 6th level, a Warlock could Maximize the equivilent of a 1st level spell - he would only be able to Maximize a standard Eldritch Blast or one modified by Hideous Blow.

At 8th level, a Warlock could Maximize the equivilent of a 2nd level spell - he would be able to Maximize an Eldritch Blast modified by Eldritch Spear, Frightful Blast, or Sickening Blast.

At 10th level, a Warlock could Maximize the equivilent of a 3rd level spell - he would be able to Maximize an Eldritch Blast modified by Brimstone Blast.

At 12th level, a Warlock could Maximize the equivilent of a 4th level spell - he would be able to Maximize an Eldritch Blast modified by Beshadowed Blast, Bewitching Blast, Eldritch Chain, or Hellrime Blast.

At 14th level, a Warlock could Maximize the equivilent of a 5th level spell - he would be able to Maximize an Eldritch Blast modified by Eldritch Cone.

At 16th level, a Warlock could Maximize the equivilent of a 6th level spell - he would be able to Maximize an Eldritch Blast modified by Noxious Blast, Repelling Blast, or Vitriolic Blast.

At 20th level, a Warlock could Maximize the equivilent of a 8th level spell (there are no essence or blast shape invocations equivilent to a 7th-level spell) - he would be able to Maximize an Eldritch Blast modified by Utterdark Blast and/or Eldritch Doom.
