Are Summoned Creatures Affected by Inspire Courage? Would Inspire Courage affect the Badger if within range to hear the song?

Inspire Courage
Allies that can hear the bard gain +1 morale bonus to saving throws against charm and fear effects, and a +1 morale bonus to all attack and weapon damage rolls. This effect is a supernatural, mind-affecting ability.

Celestial Badger
Small Magical Beast (Extraplanar)
Str 8, Dex 17, Con 15, Int 3, Wis 12, Cha 6

I appreciate any comments to this question.

Why wouldn't it? It's not an enemy, and it certainly isn't neutral. It's an ally.

Would any ally with an int of 1 or higher benefit from inspire courage then?

Any ally not immune to mind-affecting abilities, yes. For example, if your party has a necromancer who has animated skeletons or zombies, they wouldn't be affected.

(i just need to play devil's advocate for a moment here)

are summoned creatures actually allies? these creatures are summoned from their homes and forced to fight. they are bound to the will of a summoner who doesn't care if they live or die. it's simply the laws of the summoning that prevent them from attacking the summoner or his allies.

also, though they are manifest, they are the product of a magical effect. would damage from a fireball increase from Inspire Courage? if the answer to that is no (i'm honestly not sure what the answer to that is), then the answer to the question "Are Summoned Creatures Affected by Inspire Courage?" should also be no.

Why do people always feel the need to play devil's advocate?

are summoned creatures actually allies? these creatures are summoned from their homes and forced to fight. they are bound to the will of a summoner who doesn't care if they live or die. it's simply the laws of the summoning that prevent them from attacking the summoner or his allies.

They're creatures who are fighting on your side for the duration of this battle. That's all that matters for the definition of "allies". Someone whom I'm paying through the nose to fight for me as a mercenary (who, personally, doesn't like me at all) is an "ally". Someone I'm *forcing* to fight for me by use of a charm or dominate spell, or forcing to fight for me because I've kidnapped her baby son and will kill him if she doesn't, is still an "ally".

The rules of magic don't do any kind of complicated check to see how someone really feels about you, deep down inside their heart. That would be dumb, and impossible to adjudicate. An ally is measured by the same way you'd measure allies in D&D Miniatures -- who's fighting on whose side right now.

(Also, of course, the alignment-based nature of summoning throws a bit of a wrench in this system -- presumably Good-aligned summons really do want to help Good-aligned summoners, or at least aren't actively opposed to the idea.)

FWIW, the word "ally" purposely has a much more neutral meaning than the word "friend". You don't have to be friends to be allies. Alliances can be made under duress or through deception.

also, though they are manifest, they are the product of a magical effect. would damage from a fireball increase from Inspire Courage? if the answer to that is no (i'm honestly not sure what the answer to that is), then the answer to the question "Are Summoned Creatures Affected by Inspire Courage?" should also be no.

Inspire Courage affects damage done by creatures. Summoned creatures are creatures. It doesn't matter where they come from.

Since when does Britney Spears make music?

Also, you get English bonus points in my book for this one. You may have used "for" instead of "to," but you got the apostrophe right in "Spears's."
