aside from the Artificer's Monacle (MIC)? We will be planning to save up for something like this but we don't have artificers in our campaign. Few things are worse than having a ton of stuff to be identified with no pearls around for miles.

Read the entry again. You can use it as a non-Artificer if you cast Detect Magic.

Monocle of Perusal gives you identify a few times per day.

Few things are worse than having a ton of stuff to be identified with no pearls around for miles.1) A cleric with the magic domain can cast identify without needing a pearl.
2) A 6th level loremaster can identify things without a pearl
3) The Analyze Dweomer spell identifies things without a pearl
4) A scroll or wand of identify should already have the pearl built in (as would a theoretical oil of identify).
5) For some common items, descerning the aura strength and school (via detect magic) may be enough for the time being.
6) A Divination spell might reveal command words or activation methods.
7) Potions can be identified with a spellcraft check.
8) "The Knowledge (arcana) and Knowledge (history) skills might be useful in helping to identify command words or deciphering clues regarding them. A successful check against DC 30 is needed to come up with the word itself. If that check is failed, succeeding on a second check (DC 25) might provide some insight into a clue."

There is a draconic invocation that allows you to identify without a component.
