04-14-06, 09:28 PM I know it might sound stupid but I can't find a clear answer anywhere

If a fireball's area touches only one square (5'x5') of a large creature's space (10'x10'), is it affected by the spell?

Shouldn't the area of the fireball "engulf" all four squares to affect the large creature?

I got mixed up with the rule for ranged attack against large creature: To determine whether your target has cover from your ranged attack, choose a corner of your square. If any line from this corner to any corner of the target’s square passes through a square or border that blocks line of effect or provides cover, or through a square occupied by a creature, the target has cover (+4 to AC).

It just seemed weird to me that a giant had cover against an archer who couldn't draw a line to one of it's corners, but had nothing against an area effect that "licked" only one of its 5'x5' squares.

1) Does Leomund's Tiny Hut have a huge bulge that covers the dragon completely?

2) Does Globe of Invulnerability protect the dragon?

3) Does Magic Circle against Evil protect the dragon?

4) Does Invisibility Sphere make the dragon invisible?

5) Does Silence cause the tail slaps to be completely noiseless?

6) Does Silence muffle the dragon's roar, while the puny fighter grappled in the dragon's mouth screams loudly in terror?

7) Does Anti-Magic Field cause a polymorphed large creature to return to its natural medium form, which is then outside the anti-magic field, and returns to large size, and so on?

My original intent (and I'm sorry if it was unclear) was to better understand the rules for cover which are IMHO not clear when it comes to large creature and area effects.

Come to think of it my beef is with the ranged attack rule...

Why can you target a single 5'x5' square with an area effect but not with a ranged attack?
