| Ivelios202-05-07, 12:50 AM | Am I reading this correctly can a 7th level artificer make a wand of holysword a 4th level paladin spell and all he needs to do is make a relativly east umd of 24? |
| jaelis02-05-07, 01:06 AM | Actually, I believe it can be done at 5th level. The minimum CL for holy sword is 7 (it can be cast by a 14th level paladin), and artificer's get a +2 bonus to their CL for purposes of meeting item prereqs. |
| Ivelios202-05-07, 03:24 AM | ahh i was using 7th as an example because thats when they get the craft wands feat for free but your right. Dose that seem a little insane to anyone else but me? Being able to fairly easily make the weapons of your melee guys holy avengers starting at 5th lvl? |

Being able to fairly easily make the weapons of your melee guys holy avengers starting at 5th lvl?The Artificer class description got the 6th and 7th level abilities the wrong way round. Artificers get Craft Wand at 6th and the 6th level ability at 7th. See the ECS errata document on the Wizards site. (It's a PDF, so you'd need Acrobat Reader). /Irrelevant but hopefully helpful point. Taking 10 on UMD rolls is not normally allowed, unless you have a class feature that grants the right to do so (this is a rule of UMD). Does the Artificer get the ability to take 10? I can't remember if he does. Also remember that there are consequences for a roll of 1 when trying to use UMD. I suggest you enforce them. It might be reasonable to houserule that a natural 1 on a UMD roll when crafting an item that results in a UMD check failure means the attempt to craft the item does not succeed, and some percentage of the resources put in is lost. |
