| The Simbul06-15-05, 12:10 AM | As per the DMG; An assassin casts spells just as a bard does. What exactly does this mean? -Is it meant to simply illustrate that you cast spells spontaneously without preparation? -Is it meant to allow you to cast spells in light armor?? -Is it meant to force all of your spells to include a verbal component that involves singing or poety??? |

I think: you can only cast up to light armor without ASF (you aren't forced, but eh) All spells must have verbal component, no silent versions (no singing required for bard actually) |
| NeueRegel06-15-05, 01:24 AM | No. It simply is bad wording. They should have just said, "As a sorcerer". They were trying to make the comparison to the Assassin PrC being likened to Bard-to-Sorcerer, so, Assassin-to-Sorcerer, thus it came out, "Assassin = Bard". Bard's other perks, like Armor stuff, is Bard-stuff. Treat the Assassin's spell use as a Sorcerer; limited spells knowable, spontaneous casting, etc. Swapping spells too, with level progression; etc. Neue |

Because if the DMG says as a Bard, then it means, as a Bard - and all that Bardy stuff is included. If the DMG wanted you to cast spell as a Sorcerer, why didnt it say so? I don't buy your reasoning. |
| runestar06-15-05, 02:55 AM | Heh, the bard/assassin who causes the eardrums of his foes to explode via bad singing. I think too it is simply poor wording. The "as a bard" phrase is probably to allow for spontaneously spellcasting in light armour. As for the singing part... well, all I can say is "so much for being tactical". |
| djinni06-15-05, 03:20 AM | If the DMG wanted you to cast spell as a Sorcerer, why didnt it say so? I don't buy your reasoning. let's see here, casting a spell with a verbal component cannot be done quietly...um think about it, you are an assassin why are you going broadcast your location to people... that's the reasoning...your theory on "if they meant sorcerer why didn't they say sorcerer?" needs to stop being so narrow, there are typos and the wizards people admit to typos etc... deal with it... |
| NeueRegel06-15-05, 07:36 AM | I reread the classes again. 3.5 versions. The sentence, "casts spells as a bard" is in the assassin section, "spells". The section re-itterates those spell rules. The bit about a bard casting in light armor is in the "wpns & armor" section of the bard, not the "spells" section. In my game, therefore, this bonus does not pertain to assassins in light armor. In your game, it does. Cool. Hardly unbalancing. Neue |
