| Rechan08-15-05, 12:28 AM | Not only am I ill used to the system for item creation, but I don't have my books with me. So if anyone could help me out here. What I would like to see is the price for: 1) A +1 repeating crossbow 2) With an extra-dimensional clip (+100 arrow capacity) 3) The exact same above, but made from adamantite. That would help a math-plebian out. :) |
| Dragonsblood08-15-05, 01:17 AM | Sounds like what you have here is a basic Adamantine Repeating Crossbow +1 with a built in Efficient Quiver. I'd just add 2000gp for the +1, 3000gp for the adamantine, and 1800gp for the clip (cost of that quiver). Total price would be 7050gp for a light one, and 7200gp for a heavy one. Of course this doesn't include the cost of bolts. The Efficient Quiver still requires you to put stuff in it. Adamantine bolts are 51gp per 10. |
| TLomon08-15-05, 02:58 AM | Ok, let's take a look at the basics. 1) Cost of unechanted crossbow. Adamantine material. Weapon is +3,000 gp, and is automatically masterwork. Base cost of a repeating crossbow I don't have on hand, but add that in. 2) Bolts are 1gp each, plus 60gp if made of adamantine. That's 61gp each, for 100 bolts, totalling 6,100pp. No need for enchantment, as it inherents the magical bonuses from the main weapon. 3) Bolts take up 1 lb. of encumbrance each. As such, you would need 100 lbs. of storage space in the clip. A modified Efficient Quiver would do the job (all bolts instead of a mix of items). I would adjucate the same price, at 1,800gp. 4) Add enchantment of +1 to crossbow. +2,000 gp. Add this all together, you get 12,900gp plus cost of crossbow. I wouldn't call this a Sub-Machine Bow. So, let's play. 1) Keep the adamantine materials and clip. Nice idea on those. 4,800gp plus cost of crossbow. 2) Enchantment +5. (Cost below) 3) Speed. +3 bonus. (Cost below) 4) Distance. +1 bonus. (Cost below) 5) Seeking. +1 bonus. (Cost below) 6) Add up all your bonuses. +10 total. 200,000gp. Now you have a real sub-machine bow, at the low low price of 204,800 gp (plus cost of a repeating crossbow). Now lets add some real ammo. 1) Base Bolt. 61 gp each. 100 total. 6,100gp for ammo base. 2) Must be enchanted to +1 to add other powers. (Cost below) 3) Flaming. +1 bonus. (Cost below) 4) Flaming Burst. +2 bonus. (Cost below) 5) Keen. +1 bonus. (Cost below) 6) Wounding. +2 bonus. (Cost below) 7) Add up all your bonuses. +7 total. 98,000gp base cost. This is for 50 bolts, so x2 for 100. 196,000gp. Explosive rounds that will hurt... a lot. 202,100gp for 100 rounds. Together this package will cost you 406,900gp. But it would be worth it! Really it would! References: SRD Special Materials, Equipment, Magic Items I, Magic Items II, Magic Items V |

I had little intention of arming with adamantite bolts. The idea is to get a magical repeating crossbow with the quiver, and then when it's cost effective (I.e. when I'm up in levels) I trade the bow in for an adamantite version. Because adamantite is hard as hell to Sunder, and since I'd use a locked gauntlet with this sucker, I'm not losing the bow any other way. So that's 4200 for the first, and 7200 for the second. That I can handle. TLomon... that's disgusting. :D |
| Dragonsblood08-15-05, 11:01 AM | Opps, read the DMG wrong, it's +60gp for adamantine ammo, not +50gp. TLomon, what makes you think it's +60gp for EACH bolt and not per group of 10 (as sold in the PHB)? The DMG doesn't specify as far as I can tell. Rechan, you might want to check with your DM on the adamantine though. If repeating crossbows are primarily made of wood, you can't make it out of adamantine. |
| Seeker9508-15-05, 11:29 AM | TLomon, what makes you think it's +60gp for EACH boltFrom the Game FAQ: When buying ammunition using the special materials from Chapter 7 in the Dungeon Master’s Guide, is the cost given to upgrade a single piece, or do you get twenty pieces, as you do when buying nonmagic ammunition? For example, do twenty adamantine arrows cost 61 gp (twenty arrows for 1 + 60 gp for adamantine ammunition), or 1,201 gold pieces (twenty arrows for 1 +60 gp per arrow for adamantine ammunition)? The ammunition prices for special materials are per piece. A single adamantine arrow costs 61 gp. Twenty such arrows would cost 1,220 gp (not 1,201 gp). |
| TLomon08-15-05, 11:07 PM | Thanks, Seeker. Yah, what he said! The information is under special materials. The only part I saw where a price was calculated on a group of ammunition was enchantment. However, adamantite is expensive as heck, and should be. |
