recently the gaming group I'm with has uncovered an artifact one of the netherscrolls. now so far I'm the only one that knows of the astral projection duplication trick. is there anything to support the scroll not being duplicated?

Umm... Just say no?

it's an artifact. It already doesn't really follow the normal rules. Just rule that it simply can't be duplicated.

How about the fact that the AP dupe trick isn't supposed to work, according to MotP? (Astral projection simply *ends* any time you're on the same plane as your body, doesn't matter how circuitous the path by which that happens is. You can never have two duplicates to use at the same time.)

Or, as Seeker95 said, exploit the fact that artifacts don't have to follow rules, by definition.

why do you assume I'd be projecting from the material plane?

aside from simply stating "you don't find the artifact among your possessions." is there something that states why it won't be there?

Um, the fact that it's an artifact means it can break the rules.

I mean, by strict RAW, you would assume the artifact *was* translated into the projection, yes. However, the *point* of artifacts is that DMs can make them break strict RAW, and players should *expect* that to occur when they know what they're dealing with is an artifact. That is the *definition* of artifacts.

I don't see any text in the Astral Projection spell that indicates you cannot have two bodies at the same time on the material plane. There is nothing at all to support your position in Core Rules. I must assume you have access to other rules that say this. Do you?

As for the Artifact, I'll agree that it doesn't have to be duplicated, but I see no reason not to let it. With one in suspended animation, one could argue that it doesn't have any effect at all. Why bother worrying unless it happens to be a real concern story-wise.

MotP = Manual of the Planes.

Ah, didn't notice that somehow.

After reading it though, I see no mention that a person cannot go visit their body while in an Astral Projection. They simply lose all the items they were carrying when the leave the Astral Plane. One could take things they found along the way though.
