I'm trying to determine the cost of an item (a ring, for example), that allows prestidigation at will or as a continuous effect. Being that it's duration is 1 hour, as opposed to 1 hour/level, I'm not entirely sure how to price it...Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. The quicker, the better, as I'm working on a character.

Pricing an item by spell effect is supposed to be a last resort, but the effect of prestidigitation is so unique that it's really the only option.

The formula for the cost of a continuous-use item is (spell level) x (caster level) x 2,000 gp. The spell level is 0, but since that would result in free magic, we use the standard rule that 0-level spells are treated as ½-level for pricing. The caster level can be set at 1 since prestidigitation really doesn't gain anything from higher caster level. Thus, ½ x 1 x 2,000 gp = 1,000 gp.

That'd be the price for a ring, or maybe a headband or hairclip. Other types of wondrous items might go up to 1,500 if they're in a body slot that prestidigitation doesn't make sense for. An amulet, for example, is supposed to carry protection or discernment magic, which doesn't describe prestidigitation very well, so an amulet of prestidigitation would be 1,500.

This has came up many times.

It has been priced from 900 gp to 1,800 gp.
Usually use activated (like Hand of the Mage).

Note that an item that cost only 900 gp would not be continuous. It would require you to speak a command word every time you wanted to use it. Given the nature of the spell, though, a single speaking of the command word might enable the item's use for a full hour, which is better than a lot of command-word items.

Or you could make a few of them and open a laundry. Bet that's how they do it in ebberon, with water elementals to wash and air elementals to dry.

You could just use permenancy and give you prestigitation all the time rather than spending a 1000gp
