Attack bonuses on ranged touch magical traps? [Archive] - Wizards Community

I'm slightly confused as to what the attack bonus should be on a magical trap. Say I'm trying to make a Searing Light trap as created by a 10th-level cleric cleric. What attack bonus should it use?

The only examples I can find of ranged touch traps use a number which could be half caster-level or the base attack bonus of the character who crated it.

Now for equality I'm tempted to say that it's cast at 1/2 the creator's CL, meaning that it'd be at +5. This means that you don't just get stronger traps by saying that a character of another class made it, which I believe is consistent with how magic items are created.

Consider a trap crafted by a Warmage, Battle-Sorcerer, or Eldrich Knight. Should the same trap with the same CR really be any better simply because it was crafted by someone with different training?

The problem is that I'm just pulling that figure from nowhere, meaning I'm not sure it's official. Does anybody have any other insights on the topic?

I dont know.

There are though charts listing CR modifiers for to-hit bonuses in the section on mechanical traps, and I see no reason why those wouldnt work just fine for your magical ones.
