| CYBERwizard03-23-04, 10:16 AM | In the BoED a new 1st level spell called Augment Familiar increases the overall combat abilities of a familiar. One way in which this is done is a +4 enhancement bonus to constitution. This would seem to be simple, +4 con means +2 HP per hit die, +2 fort save, etc... but, as stated in the sorcerer section about familiars, a familiar always has 1/2 the max HP of its master (or his own, whichever is better, which rarely happens). So this +4 con will not increase the HP of the familiar because the extra few HP they would get from their HD would not exceed 1/2 their masters. My question is: Was all this taken into account when making the spell? Is the +4 con not intended to increase HP and used soley for the other abilites that relate to con? If it does add to HP how would it do so? Would it be based on the creatures HD(which is only about 1 or 2)? Or maybe base it on the masters HD and give it a bonus of +2 HP for each HD of their master. Or base it on caster level? Any help would be great, something official would be best. Thanks. |

If the master is 4th level, hit points 12, the familiar has 6 hit points normally. With augment familiar, the familiar has 4 more hit points (2hp x 4HD master / 2). In any case, the designers probably didn't think on it too hard or they would have provided an example. I think this would make a better Feat than Spell. But then. I'm not a designer. By the way, if you want an official answer, you probably need to write to WotC / the Sage: custserv@wizards.com sageadvice@paizo.com Edit: typo. kreynolds caught it. |
