| Koz05-09-07, 10:03 AM | I'm confused by the FAQ entry on Augment Healing and the Vigor spells. It says that Augment Healing would only heal damage once during the spells duration. But I'm not sure why Augment Healing affects Vigor at all. Doesn't Vigor just grant you an ability (i.e. Fast Healing) which then heals you? You're not actually being healed by the spell, but rather an ability granted by the spell. The other confusion of the entry is that it says "how does Augment Healing work with Lesser Vigor and similar spells". Some people are interpreting "similar" to mean ANY spell that heals over time, while others say its only refering to the other Vigor spells. If Augment Healing only heals once for all healing over time spells then Augment Healing needs to be errated (not FAQ'd) to say that. Because if you take any Healing Conjuration spell that heals over time (such as Magic Convalescence) and apply the text of Augment Healing round by round, there is NO WAY it can be said to NOT heal every single instance of healing. Am I wrong here? Koz |

You are correct, Augment Healing should not affect Vigor spells. The FAQ contradicts the rules as written. I don't know if it was oversite or an intentional attempt to revise the feat. For reference, here is the FAQ. What effect does the Augment Healing feat (Complete Divine, page 79) have on lesser vigor (Complete Divine, page 186) and similar spells? Augment Healing adds twice the spell’s level to the total healing it provides. The simplest method is to have the spell apply the extra healing to the first round of fast healing. Thus, lesser vigor (a 1st-level spell) would cure an extra 2 hp of damage in the first round, for a total of 3 hit points. Each round thereafter it would heal the normal 1 hp of damage. Mass lesser D&D FAQ v.3.5 24 Update Version: 01/26/07 vigor (a 3rd-level spell) would cure an extra 6 hp of damage to each target in the first round (for a total of 7 hit points), and would heal 1 hp of damage each round thereafter as normal.I use FAQ when rules are unclear, but when they contradict the rules, I rarely apply thier 'suggestions'. Some groups consider them eratta though, so there it is. For balance reasons, I would only apply the augment healing to the first round of any spell that actually 'cures' over rounds. |

I'm really not sure why the whole Augment Healing + Vigor thing was such a big deal before, and worthy of an FAQ entry, it seems cut and dry to me that they don't work together at all. Unfortunately, people in my group are using this FAQ entry to say that that is how ALL healing over time spells work with Augment Healing, which is very unclear in the entry. IMO, letting Augment Healing work with heal over time spells is not THAT powerful, but it is strong. But compared to the multitude of "broke ass" combos out there, this one is pretty far down the list. Koz |
