| Shas_Toriia04-05-08, 07:07 PM | Sorry, but is it just me or is the spell Avasculate and its Big Brother Avascular Mass overly powerful? Especially since in one game using Avascular Mass I managed to deal almost 20,000 damage before taking into account the HP/2 effect. And yes, I know that's not the most optimized thing ever created, but I don't optimize all that much, so. . . |
| Dracosis04-05-08, 07:21 PM | Where is the damage coming from before the half current hit points effect? I just read over those spells and as far as i can tell you could only cause 22,000 points of damage if the enemy had 44,000 to begin with. |
| Shas_Toriia04-05-08, 07:32 PM | It involved a warblade, a multitude of buffs, and an unarmored foe, but still. Besides, that extra damage was from warblade maneuvers and attacks and similar stuff. |

It isn't. It causes an Avasculate effect on one target and a Web effect on those around it. |
| Shas_Toriia04-05-08, 08:06 PM | Thanks capp'n. I hope you like it when people make assumptions about you without any knowledge of what they're talking about. I know full well what Avascular Mass does. |
| PhaedrusXY04-05-08, 10:17 PM | People make that mistake all the time. I didn't mean to be insulting. So, that means you DID fight something with 40,000 hit points, then? I'd like to hear about that. :P |

I know full well what Avascular Mass does. Do you always throw a tantrum when you walk into what is usually the common misreading of these spells? No, they aren't broken/overpowered/whatever. They're mean, but they're higher level necromancy spells. they're supposed to ruin your day on a failed save. |
| Krusk04-07-08, 12:08 AM | Could you consider setting up your situation with how you managed to do this? Maybe then people could explain where the discrepency lies? |
| Eerongal04-07-08, 11:55 AM | no, these spells aren't broken. Why? Think of it this way. With the same spell level, the same save, etc, there's plenty of other save or die/save or suck spells out there that would directly take the critter out of the fight. With this spell, all you did was hurt it, it's still there, and it still hits as hard as it did before, and chances are, it is now angry at you. well, with avascular mass, it may be considered a save or suck spell, but for a 9th level spell, i think it may be kinda weak, as its basically an uber web. |

Avasculate only has a save to not be stunned for 1 round. The half-your-current hp damage is a ranged touch. Avascular mass is also an 8th level spell and you are automatically entaged. My old DM thought they were unbalanced and overpowered but he only brought up stupidly badass monsters with craploads of health as examples. I think they're fine and I allow them in my campaign. |

For the simple minded, could you explain how you achieve this kind of damage in the context you described? Thanks.. |

| TheCobra04-13-08, 03:08 PM | Ray deflection helps balance the spell. |
