| blood_of_vol08-18-07, 11:44 AM | The spell that brings Demogorgon to his knees in two rounds... Avasculate (Libris Mortis 62) is a 7th level spell that reduces a target to half hit points with no save. Combine this with the Split Ray metamagic feat (Complete Arcane 83) and you can reduce Demogorgon to 31 hp, no saves, with two 9th level spells. This sounds just a tad bit broken to me. Does anyone know a rules element that would assist in restricting the abuse of this spell or have any suggestions that would make this spell not so outrageously powerful? |

| lord_xarallon08-18-07, 04:48 PM | Yes, Avasculate is a badass spell. Combine it with Power Word Kill and you have a nasty combo. |
| Errol08-18-07, 09:50 PM | Avasculate is a headache. |
| Cold Napalm08-18-07, 10:35 PM | It's half current hit points. Oh and split ray...bah...twin it. Use meta magic rod or incantrix+halurra elder or whatever trick and you now do half their current hitpoints twice...not in sequence but at once so they end up at 0 hp no matter what hehe. |
| DrStalker08-19-07, 07:20 AM | Sounds like it needs a saving throw to resist IMO. |
| JiCi08-19-07, 07:54 AM | Overwhelm (PH2, page 120) is better, IMO. Sure, a Will save negates the damage, but the target takes non-lethal damage equal to its current hit points; in other words, if falls unconscious in one shot. Have another character ready to make a coup de grace... and you're done. |

| Shaggy_Shaggs08-19-07, 09:00 AM | Avasculate allows Spell Resistance you fool. |
| HuManBing08-19-07, 09:03 AM | You've misspelled "sensitivity" in your signature. |
| Shaggy_Shaggs08-19-07, 09:11 AM | Fixed, thank you. Anyway... Avasculate is damned brutal but good luck killing gods and especially powerful fiends with it, you're gonna need it. |
| Tedronai08-19-07, 05:00 PM | Unfortunately for all the would-be-god-killers out there, twinned Avasculate does not result in 0 hit points with no save, it has the same result as a single Avasculate, but at a much higher cost. Avasculate resets thier current HP to half of what it was before the spell, rather than dealing damage equal half their hitpoints. Since both of the spells with take effect at the same time, they both see the same current HP, and reset the new total to the same number. |
| Zarreth_Nessad08-19-07, 06:31 PM | A better Meta combo would be to Chain it, then next turn Max Disintegrate...or Finger of Death, etc. |
| Satanoth08-19-07, 07:58 PM | Avasculate is necromantic/negative energy ray, remember it can be blocked with a Death Ward spell, anyway...i recommend using Avasculate and Night's Caress at the same time can be brutal if not resisted...hell of a necromantic combo :D |
