Hi :)

I was just wondering what the average number of spells a regular adventuring Wizard would know at various points in her career would be? For instance at 5th, 10th, 15th and 20th level.

Not sure you're really gonna get a true "average" because this can vary wildly between DM to DM, campaign settting to campaign setting, wizard to wizard, # of spells in world (which affects availability), etc. If you could at least give an idea of the setting, availability of magic in it, & if you are using more than core spells, maybe someone could come up with a better answer. :twocents:

really its too hard to say though a good idea on a level by level basis would be.
2 freespells of your highest lvl
1 spell of your highest lvl(scroll)
a handful of lower level spells(scrolls)

this breaks down at 9th level, when you can reliably produce stuipid quanititys of gold.pretty much by the mid-high levels ie 11-15 you should have pretty much every spell youll find usefull.

I would suggest something along the lines of 1-2 extra spells of each level, per level.

So, at 5th level, you'd have (5+int mod)+3-6 first level spells. Essentially, every level, you gain one or two new spells of each level you can cast spells from, in addition to the two free spells per level.

Just remember that this DOES come out of your initial starting gold.

Okay, that sounds plausible. Thanks! :)

The setting I currently play in is Forgotten Realms, by the way, but I'm also hoping to start up an Eberron game soonish.
